Keen Newport Review TOG Magazine Review By Judy Armstrong Until I discovered Teva’s Toachi, Newport were my first choice for trekking sandals. They are a top option for women considering sandals for the first time, because leather side ribs and an immense toe bumper offer unbeatable all-round protection. This means less air flow but more confidence. Instep support is good, underfoot comfort is excellent and the sandal cups the foot well. The only hitch is getting them on or off, especially with damp feet. The leather upper lined with hydrophobic SPR (like neoprene but anti-allergenic) covers the foot, and an elasticated loop acts as laces to hold it tight, leaving a small gap to shove the foot through. Grit rarely gets in but when it does, I usually have to remove the sandal to
get it out. Sole lugs are shallow and, while the tread pattern does not look aggressive, it works well. I have worn these on very varied terrain and my feet have never felt vulnerable.
