- July. How to Grow: Planting Advice for Lupin ' Gallery Mixed': Lupins prefer to be grown in full sun with some afternoon shade to protect them from the heat of hot, midday sun. Grow in any soil as long as it is free draining & rich in organic matter. Pot-grown lupins can be planted at any time of the year as long as the soil is not waterlogged or frozen.
