A collection of three unusual & very pretty Salvias, the ' Lips' series look incredible in your patio pot or in a sunny border! Their bright, two-tone flowers will light up your garden from early summer to the first frosts in October, in a wonderful 5-month display. As a bonus, the leaves are lightly scented too which only adds to the appeal of this charming plant. Producing an abundance of eye-catching, bicoloured (or sometimes solid) flowers in shades of red through to violet throughout the summer, these salvias are fully winter hardy & will die back underground in the autumn only to burst into life again with fresh new growth each spring. In cooler summers, you will get whiter flowers, & in hot ones you will get a lot more colour. These Salvias are very easy to care for & flower prolifically with minimal care perfect for beginners! Supplied as 12 x plug plants, 4 of 3 varieties growing to a height of 1 m (3 ft) & spread of 75 cm (2½ ft), including: Salvia ' Hot Lips'
- Amazing two-tone half red & half white summer long blooms. Salvia ' Amethyst Lips'
- Gorgeous violet & white flowers throughout the summer. Salvia ' Cherry Lips'
- Fragrant foliage with beautiful pink & white two-tone blooms. Care Planting Advice for Salvia: Salvias grow best in well-drained soil in full sun or partial shade, avoid excessively exposed areas & waterlogged soils. Before planting, prepare the soil by digging over & removing any weeds. Incorporate some well-rotted manure to enrich the soil if necessary. When planting a number of perennials, arrange them on the surface so you can see how they will look before planting. Individually knock out each plant from its container. Look at the roots
- if they are circling around the compost, it is best to tease them out. To do this, push your fingers into the rootball along the bottom edge & pull. Do this in a couple of places. This should encourage the roots to spread into the surrounding soil. Next use a trowel or spade to create a hole just deep & wide enough to set in the rootball. The aim is to bury just the roots, leaving the bases of the stems (when in growth in summer) or the shoots (in spring) above ground. Firm back around the soil, using your hand for small clumps & your heel on larger areas. Water in well to settle the soil & prevent desiccation. Aftercare advice for your salvias: Feed & water regularly until plants are fully established. Although perennial, this salvia will require some winter protection outdoors in the form of a straw mulch & if growing it in containers, move to a cold greenhouse or conservatory to prevent the cold from penetrating to the roots. In spring, apply a generous 5-7cm (2-3in) mulch of well-rotted garden compost or manure around the base of the plant Pruning Advice for Salvia: Prune lightly in late spring when new growth appears to remove dead stems & to maintain a bushy shape. Hardy Verbena Bonariensis Plugs (12 Pack) A tall, award-winning perennial with erect, branching stems, Verbena bonariensis is a well-loved garden plant deserving a place in every garden so long as there is border space to plant it. Tightly packed clusters of small, violet flowers are produced in abundance & carried on tall, willowy stems from summer to autumn, adding a sophisticated grace to planting schemes. Also known as Argentinian vervain, it is one of the longest-lasting plants in the garden, with flower heads persisting right into the depths of winter, providing much needed interest. Ideal as a filler in borders, it is 'transparent', allowing other plants to shine through, & one of the best plants around to add structure to the border & attract a host of pollinating insects to the garden
- probably why garden designers love it so much. Reliably hardy & very easy to grow, v.bonariensis has been given the RHS Award of Garden Merit, assuring you of its garden-worthiness & suitability for UK gardens & gardeners
- whatever their level of experience. As an added bonus, this verbena seeds freely so, once established you're guaranteed a plentiful source of free plants! Specifications Ideal For: Beds/ Borders/ Cottage Garden/ Winter Interest Flowers: June
- October Position: Full Sun/ Partial Shade Height/ Spread: 200cm x 75cm Hardiness: Fully Hardy Supplied as: 12 x plug plants ready for potting on. Growing tips: When potting on ("pricking out"), handle plugs carefully. For plug plants in trays, push them out using a suitable small instrument through the hole in the bottom of each cell – e.g. a "dibber" or a pencil. Pot on using our Windowsill planters or 9cm pots in Shuttle Trays, using good multi-purpose compost. Give your plants a good water initially, then only when the top compost starts to dry
- they don’t like to be left in standing water. When planting out, grow in well-drained, moderately fertile soil in full sun. In cold areas, protect with a dry winter mulch. Verbena bonariensis can suffer dieback in harsh winters if cut back in autumn, so it's best to leave the plant until spring & cut back the old growth when you see the new shoots emerging at the base. Hardy Yucca Gloriosa Variegata 3L Pot Be rewarded with a spectacular flower display. A potted, established plant This rather exotic & dramatic looking plant originally hails from central USA & is fully hardy throughout the UK. It's very long lived eventually forming a strong trunk which is capped by a rosette of sword like fleshy leaves with a handsome creamy margin. In summer you'll be rewarded with a spectacular flower spike rearing from the centre of the plant, bearing many creamy white blooms. Giving a spectacular show from July through to the autumn, you can then remove this as soon as the flowers fade to allow the plant to regain strength before winter. Despite its appearance, this is not a desert plant & likes moist well drained soil. Yuccas are far easier to grow than many realise, needing little attention once planted & bring instant impact to the garden. This Yucca is equally at home in a large pot or sunny border so pick a spot & enjoy for years to come. Specifications Ideal For: Beds/borders/pots & containers/patio growing Flowers: July
- October Position: Sun or Partial Shade Height/ Spread: 120cm x 80cm Hardiness: Winter Hardy Supplied as: 3L potted established plant Contents 1 X 3L Potted Yucca back to top

Hardy Tree Fern 'Dicksonia Antartica' - 2ft Potter Log

Hardy Tree Fern 'Dicksonia Antartica' - 2ft Potter Log Tree ferns were a firm plant hunter's favourite from Victorian times, a symbol of wealth and travel experiences to Australia. They have maintained this sense of mystique ever since and now you too can grow these surprisingly easy exotic looking plants in your own garden. Harvested under strict license from woodland clearance in Australia and Tasmania, these astonishing plants really will delight and amaze. They grow under the woodland canopy, in the shade, so grow them here in a sheltered spot too. These 'potter' logs are at least 10 years old, and have been cut back and harvested dormant. When you water them via the top crown, they will burst back into life, like it's the new rainy season. At this size of log at 2ft tall, new
fronds of almost 1m in length will unfurl spectacularly within a month or so of you watering it. It's amazing when they come how quickly they grow. When you get it home, plant it in a big pot, or in the garden soil. It takes almost 2 years to root in, so do not be alarmed by this slow growing beauty. The plant is hardy in winter, although the fronds will die back. Cutting these off when they die back is what creates the new trunk, which slowly inches up over many, many years. Keep the crown protected in winter with a layer of straw to keep cold and wet out. Because they grow in leaf canopies, most of their food comes from leaves falling into their giant shuttlecock like fronds, funnelling the goodness into the growing crown. That's hard to achieve in UK gardens so we recommend
feeding with HSK specialist tree fern feed. Specifications Ideal for: Pots, containers, patios Position: Shade Height/Spread: 120cm/80cm Hardiness: Winter Hardy Supplied as: A 'potter log', approx. 2ft tall, cut back, from which new fronds will quickly emerge. During the season, these may be supplied with fronds already elongated Contents 1 x 2ft Log back to top
