- Lifetime Warranty Secure Digital (SD Card), introduced in late 2001, is a second-generation derivative of the Multi Media Card standard that is backward-compatible with Multi Media Cards. The SD card, Secure Digital format
Includes:: several important technological advancements over Multi Media Card (MMC). These include the addition of cryptographic security protection for copyrighted data/music & a 4X increase in data transfer rates. The SD Card Association sets the specifications for the Secure Digital (SD) card. To help support higher capacity cards, the SD card is slightly thicker than the original Multi Media Card. This means that devices designed to support the SD card may also accept MMC (if the host device is not strictly limited to SD media for data security reasons); but devices exclusively designed for MMC will not support the thicker SD card at this time.
