The department of Ardèche (07) in a series of departmental road maps at 1:150, 000 from the IGN with the clearest presentation of the road network among the publishers’ extensive range of titles, but with less topographic & no tourist information offered by IGN’s bestselling TOP100 series. The index lists communes with their population figures. Greater clarity in the presentation of the road network on the departmental maps has been achieved by considerably reducing the number of place names shown on them: fewer small villages or isolated farms/buildings are marked & the maps do not indicate any features usually included at this scale such as churches, castles, etc. By comparison with the TOP100 series, the departmental maps present the terrain with no contours but with only faint relief shading & colouring for woodlands, plus with noticeably fewer names of topographic features (mountain ranges, etc). Road network indicates motorway junction numbers, services & rest areas, but is annotated with fewer driving distances on local roads. The maps do not include any tourist information such as interesting sights or GR routes, & no geographical coordinates are provided for GPS navigation. Railway lines are shown with stations & local airports/airfields are marked. The maps indicate boundaries of all the administrative units & each title has an index of communes (placed next to the map) which also gives population figures. Map legend
