Symbols mark locations of facilities usually indicated on street mapping: post offices, emergency services, public toilets, etc. Also marked are postcode & local authority boundaries. The maps also show the division of the counties into hundreds or wapontakes. They are representative of the functional nineteenth-century approach to cartography, yet are not unattractive.
