Wiener Hausberge region of Austria at 1:35, 000 on a GPS compatible, double-sided map from Kümmerly+ Frey printed on sturdy, waterproof & tear-resistant synthetic paper; contoured, with hiking, cycling & ski routes, accommodation facilities, locations for other recreational activities, etc. Maps in the K+F recreational series covering the Austrian Alps are either at 1:50, 000 or 1:35, 000. Contour interval is 40m, enhanced by relief shading & finely drawn additional graphic relief to provide an excellent representation of the terrain. The maps have plenty of names of peaks, valleys, etc, plus colouring/graphics indicating different types of vegetation, & show boundaries of national parks or other protected areas. An overprint, graded according to the difficulty of the route, highlights local hiking trails & long-distance paths indicating, where appropriate, their numbers or names. Also marked are local & long-distance cycle routes, plus a selection of mountain-bike trails, cross-country & alpine ski routes & horse-riding paths. Symbols mark locations for other outdoor activities (climbing, paragliding), different types of accommodations including alpine huts, campsites & youth hostels, sites of botanical or cultural interest, etc. The maps have a 1- km UTM grid. One of the titles in a series of recreational maps at scales suitable for walking & cycling, showing areas of cultural & conservation significance. There is some variation in the cartographic content, but a noticeable feature is the emphasis on land use & vegetation distribution, e.g. heath, sand dunes, woods, natural grassl&, salt marshes, etc. The maps show local footpaths, cycle & mountain bike paths, bridleways, waterways, campsites & other accommodation, various sport & recreation facilities, places of interest, etc. Road junctions show the numbers of the special signposts erected by the ANWB motoring organization. Falk, one of Germany`s leading publishers of street plans, produce their town plans in two different formats. Falk Extra plans are folded in a standard way, where the whole map can be opened to view the entire area it covers. For larger cities, the same mapping is also published with a special folding system designed to show only a small section of the map at one time. The whole map can be opened but it will be cut in several places. Many find these street plans very user-friendly & easier to handle than conventional maps. The plans, which cover towns with their outer suburbs, indicate main landmarks & public buildings & show all the public transport facilities, one way streets & car parks. Plans of lager cities include a separate map of the town centre at a more detailed scale & a diagram of the underground & the suburban rail network.
