Ryhope Village in 1895 in a fascinating series of reproductions of old Ordnance Survey plans in the Alan Godfrey Editions, ideal for anyone interested in the history of their neighbourhood or family. The map is double-sided. Most of the village (but not colliery) is shown & features include both NER & Londonderry Railway stations, The Green, St Paul`s church, Ryhope Colliery Junction with colliery railways, Shirley Banks, Leechmere Way, Ryhope Grange, Sunderland Cemetery, Ryhope Nook, etc. Note that the famous Pumping Station is just off the map. An 1894 directory of Ryhope is on the reverse. About the Alan Godfrey Editions of the 25” OS Series: Selected towns in Great Britain & Ireland are covered by maps showing the extent of urban development in the last decades of the 19th & early 20th century. The map covers the front from Roclincourt to Neuville St. Vaast with trenches corrected to 27.12.1916. Also included is a short biography of 2nd Lt. Harry Bannister.Maps in this series show both the British and the enemy trenches. Several titles also indicate supply and ammunition dumps, machine gun and trench mortar emplacements, observation posts, etc. Most titles are annotated with a specific date when they were prepared and include on the reverse a glossary of terms used on the map. Some also include additional information on the regiments and/or individual solders connected with that
