Everyone has heard of Albert Einstein & everyone knows that he was a genius. Yet only a few people understand his work. In fact, he was just one of many brilliant scientists grappling with the deepest problems of theoretical physics during the first half of the twentieth century. He may not have been the most important or influential of them
- the point is arguable
- but there is no doubt he was the most revolutionary. Almost single-handed, he transformed the way the world thinks about light, matter, space & time. In the sixty years since his death Einstein has become a legend. The profound obscurity of his theories has contributed to this, as has his archetypal mad scientist appearance. His philosophical & political utterances
- both real & imagined
- are regularly used to clinch arguments online or in the pub. So how can a modern reader separate myth from reality? This short book attempts to do just that! ANDREW MAY has a degree in Natural Sciences from Cambridge University & a Ph D in astrophysics from Manchester University. He went on to work in the shadowy world of defence science & now earns his living as a freelance writer & defence consultant. He is author of Isaac Newton pocket GIANT (2015).

Following the war Kesselring was tried & convicted of war crimes following a number of massacres of civilians in Italy. He was sentenced to death, later commuted to life imprisonment before being released on the grounds of ill health in October 1952. Albert Oehlen has established himself as one of the leading figures in contemporary painting thanks to a continually evolving practice that focuses more on overcoming formal limitations & on experimentation than on the subject of the work. Music has played a central part in the artist s output, serving as a metaphor for his method of working in which fusion & rhythm, improvisation & repetition, & density & harmony of sounds are turned into pictorial gestures. This monograph maps out a route through the whole of Albert Oehlen s production, from his best-known works to less familiar ones & from the 1980s to the present day, with reproductions of paintings in the Pinault Collection & other major private collections & international museums ...
