Road maps of Mexico’s states from Ediciones Independencia highlighting numerous places of interest & tourist facilities, with each title also providing a large street plan of the provincial capital plus maps of other local towns, popular tourist resorts and/or archaeological sites. The state maps show the road & rail networks on a clear base, with topography indicated by rivers & areas liable to inundation, plus names of main mountain ranges & peaks (no heights). National parks & other protected areas are brightly highlighted. A range of symbols provides information for tourists: accommodation including campsites & trailer parks, historical & archaeological sites, beaches & spas, sport & leisure centres, natural curiosities, etc. The maps show latitude & longitude as margin ticks & crosshairs, mostly at 30’ or 1° intervals. The maps have contours at 20m intervals, enhanced by relief shading, plus colouring and/or graphics to show different types of terrain, vegetation or land use. Boundaries of national parks & other protected areas are marked. In addition to all the usual information featured on topographic mapping at this scale, detailed presentation of the road & rail networks, rural tracks & paths, etc, the maps also show campsites & mountain refuges. On more recent editions some GRs, the official long-distance hiking routes, are also marked (although not as clearly as on hiking maps from other publishers). Each map covers 29.5x 18.5 km (with adjustments in the border or coastal areas). The maps have a 1-km UTM grid, plus margin ticks for latitude & longitude at 1` intervals. Where possible, both versions are included in our titles. Map titles listed on our website are based on information received by us at the time of publication, but sometimes maps arrive showing a completely different title! In the late 1550s a Basque adventurer named Lope de Aguirre set out in search of El Dorado. He joined an expedition led by Pedro de Ursua & embarked upon a great journey that would take them across the whole width of South America from the Pacific to the Atlantic. In 1987 Stephen Minta set out on the trial of this expedition. Drawing on the writings of the chroniclers of that time, on eye-witness accounts & on more modern literary allusions, he reconstructs the adventure, charting its tempestuous progress along the Amazon where death & destruction lay in its wake. He relives the atmosphere within the ranks as, in the face of increasingly hostile terrain, illness & inadequate supplies, hopes & aspirations give way to treachery & dissent. The author's own journey takes him from Cuzco in Peru, a city where you can feel the pain of oblivion, across the Andes, through the heart of Amazonia until Peru vanishes into Brazil, then to Margarita Isl&, off the mainland of Venezuela. In each town & village he evokes a strong sense of history which, combined with anecdotes & unexpected encounters, makes this a remarkable story in itself.
