Alsion Raju’s Cicerone guide to The Way of St James
- Le Puy to the Pyrennes explores the 730km of one of the oldest walking trails in Europe. People have been walking the Way of St James as a pilgrim route for over a thousand years. Today, the walk attracts diverse adventurers
- some to enjoy a beautiful long distance footpath, others who may have a religious motive or a personal, historical or cultural interest in the route. The guide covers the 730km French section of the route from Le Puy-en-Velay in central France to the Pyrenees on the Spanish border. The route follows the GR65 long distance path from Le Puy & continues through southern & south western France to Saint Jean Pied-de-Port & on to Roncesvalles in Spain. The walking part of the guide is organized into three sections
- Le Puy-en-Velay to Figeac, Figeac to Moissac & Moissac to the Pyrenees
- which give extensive background information on St James & various pilgrim references en route. A detailed introduction provides a history of the areas & also notes on topography, economy & landscape. Each of the detailed router descriptions are accompanied by colour diagrams mapping the route as well as colour photographs illustrating the highlights of the journey.* This is the first in a 2 volume set of guides covering the whole of the route to Santiago.
