There are three types of mandarin oil green yellow & red. These colours do not refer to the colour of the oil but the ripeness of the fruit when they are expressed. Absolute Aromas has selected yellow mandarin for its wonderful zestiness which is distinct from the more common red oils. Sicily is the top source for these oils. Mandarin has a sweet familiar aroma & is considered one of the gentler oils making it popular for use by pregnant women & on children in very low dilutions. After a hard day try soaking in a bath containing 3 drops of Mandarin 3 drops of Geranium & 2 drops of Patchouli all blended in a teaspoon of Peach Kernel oil. If pregnant a gentle massage of the bump using 1 drop of Mandarin in a teaspoon of Peach Kernel is always pleasant. Oil of May Chang is a comparatively new essential oil to the West. It is steam-distilled from the pepper-shaped fruits (Cubeba) of this tropical tree. The strong lemon odour of the main constituent (Citral
- 75%) dominates & hence the oil resembles Lemongrass although it has a rounder & more fruity aroma. Like Lemongrass May Chang is used for the isolation of Citral for lemon flavours & for the production of several perfumery materials as well as Vitamin A. While the synonym Litsea Citrata is often given for May Chang Litsea Citrata is a related species with a lower Citral content. A wonderful citrus aroma which uplifts cleanses & tones. May Chang is an excellent room deodoriser & insect repellent – use 5 or 6 drops in a traditional candle burner Aroma-Stone or Aroma-Stream. For oily or problem skin try adding a few drops of May Chang to skin cleansing products to boost astringent & anti-bacterial properties (not suitable for sensitive skin).
