Mackerel reach maturity at 3 years but can live up to 20 years & grow up to 70cm long. They are a fast-swimming species that is related to Tuna. They grow quite fast & the female will spawn a large quantity of eggs. This Mackerel is fished off the Coast of Scotland by mid-water trawls set on dense schools of moving fish. It is landed & packed for us in Scotl&. In our waters, Mackerel are found from the Iberian coast all the way up to the North Sea, North of Scotl&. This variety is known as Spanish Mackerel or Scomber Japonicus.
