Rab have really got the
hang of making a superbly
fitting womens jacket;
the Vidda has a brilliant
shape and is one of the
few longer jackets
available that will keep
your bum and top of your
thighs dry. The body of
the Vidda is made from
mid-weight Event and the
shoulders and arms
feature a heavier fabric
to combat abrasion and
provide durability. Event
is a totally waterproof
and highly breathable
membrane fabric offering
high performance and
reliable quality. Our
experience shows that it
is just as waterproof as
Gore Tex and is
significantly more
breathable than Gore-Tex
Performance Shell. Rab
are the masters of hood
design, they are not so
big that your head just
wallows around in it,
they cinch down without
obscuring your vision and
they have a wired peak so
it doesnt flop down over
your eyes. Youd be
amazed how many technical
jackets are let down by
poor hood design, but
not with the Rab Vidda,
in my humble opinion it
has the best hood design
of any jacket currently
available. All external
zips are the high quality
YKK Aquaguard zips which
are designed to be highly
water resistant, but not
completely waterproof.
The main zip is a Vislon
version which remains
free running and easy to
use even in freezing
conditions. So if you are
looking for a reliable
and great performing
water proof shell for use
in the mountains, look

M.E.’s Arclight Jacket
is their most breathable,
fully weatherproof
jacket out there. Made
from super
breathable Polartec NoeShell fabric,
this jacket is ideal for
the fast moving, highly
active mountain
goer. Polartec NeoShell has
a hydrostatic head of 10,
000mm so it does a great
job at keeping water at
bay; this fabric comes
into its own in the cold
and rapidly changing
conditions that you find
on long, multi-day ski
tours. The Mountain Hood
is fully adjustable with
a smaller cranium volume
than the Mountain HC
Hood. Unfortunately this
mean that you can’t fit
a helmet underneath,
however this hood
provides a more secure
and precise fit, which
is what this jacket is
all about. Sticking with
the secure and precise
fit theme, Mountain
Equipment has constructed
this jacket around their
Alpine Fit Block. This is
a close fitting cut yet
it still allows room for
low volume layers and has
been built
with manoeuvrability in
mind. M.E. have used a
new shoulder construction
and new seam placements
to reduce tightness and
“bagging” in one foul
swoop. The guys at M.E.

Storm Construction
techniques during the
design and build of the

The Shivling Jacket is
