Just so that you know, the AR in the Theta AR stands for all-round, which pretty much means it is suitable for just about every mountain activity. The brilliant Gore-Tex Pro fabric has put Gore-Tex firmly back at the top of the performance tree; it is lighter, more flexible & an amazing 28% more breathable than its predecessor. Going into more detail; the Theta AR Jacket is made from two different types of Nylon faced Gore-Tex Pro,  N40r-X and N80p-X. Arcteryx have used the light & supple N40r-X nylon rip-stop fabric throughout the body to maximise comfort & breathability, this is then reinforced by N80p-X plain weave nylon on the shoulders, arms,  seat & hips to protect these critical areas from abrasion. The Theta AR has a mid-thigh length to provide extra cover making it the perfect all-rounder for outdoor activities. All seams are taped to an exceptionally high standard & drawcords use a one-hand operation. The helmet compatible  Drop Hood, which as the name suggests, drops down flat out of the way when not required & features a high integrated collar that forms a weather tight closure when required. Pit zips enhance breathability when you are working very hard & all the main zip is a  Water Tight  Vislon zip, the first zip to pass the Gore-Tex extreme wet weather test. All other zips are Water Tight zips but be aware that this doesnt make the pocket waterproof only highly water resistant, so electronics & valuables should always be kept inside a a water proof bag. The Fastalpina GTX is a well designed & proper walking & trekking shoe that has been designed to be used for longer walks & treks. The key to the Fastalpinas comfort & support is the ingenious IMS 3 system. IMS 3 combines the outersole, an exoskeleton support structure & a 3D anatomical fit midsole. The outsole is exclusive to AKU & is a lightweight deep lugged Vibram unit combining durability with traction & stability. Cushioning & support is provided by the internal PU & EVA midsole which then extends up & around the heel to provide additional support & pronation control. The IMS 3D midsole provides a natural rolling flex to the boot without it being too soft or too stiff.   The design of the midsole itself mimics the foot shape to cradle the foot in a natural position reducing fatigue & internal movement. The internal shape of the boot is dictated by the last, a solid form that the boot is built around, & AKU use a special anatomical last which gives room around the metatarsal heads  (toe joints) & control & support in the heel area minimising slippage & friction. The Montagnard is a brand new mountaineering boot from AKU which features a fully insulated Gore-Tex comfort lining for true winter capabilities. This brand new boot from AKU is absolutely gorgeous, both to look at & to wear. Virtually all the components were sourced from Italian suppliers & the boots themselves were designed & hand made by AKU in their Montebelluna factory in northern Italy. They just ooze quality. The key to the comfort & stability of AKU boots is their IMS system. Normally the midsole (the boots backbone) is made from a flat stiff board or plate, but IMS uses a 3D anatomically shaped midsole that cradles the foot in a natural position reducing internal movement & encouraging a naturally relaxed foot. What this means is that your feet feel less tired as they are not constantly working to provide support, the IMS is doing all that. The sole unit of the Superalp has been constructed using the new Exoskeleton construction which provides protection & stability without compromising the weight of the boot.
