This really is a shell that you can put on, & keep on throughout the day no matter what the weather throws at you. Think of it as a lightweight waterproof stretchy softshell. The first thing we noticed when we put on the Bergelmir is how quiet the fabric is compared to Gore-Tex Pro jackets, you can put up the hood, rotate your head & still hear whats going on, perfect for climbing when you need to hear your partner. While we are on the subject of hoods, the one on the Bergelmir is just about perfect. Now I have been accused of being a bit of a hood pedant, but I cant stand overly massive hoods that dont fit your head & flop around your eyes. The Bergelmir hood is fully helmet compatible yet still fits snugly when lidless, it has a wired & stiffened peak that keeps its shape & offers superb visibility. If you are not using the hood, but still have the zip fully up there is good face protection from the high neck line & all adjuster cords are routed internally to avoid whipping you in the face. Pockets are set high on the chest to avoid interfering with a harness & are big enough to take a folded OS map. A laminated internal pocket securely holds a phone or GPS.  & thats about it as far as features go, pretty much everything you need & nothing you dont. But what really sets the Bergelmir apart from the crowds is the sublime attention to detail & the fantastic fit, close & snug around the hips yet with plenty of maneuverability through the shoulders & arms. The  Vanir  Salopette has been designed for technical mountain use & gives you all the features you need to remain comfortable & protected in the most severe conditions. These are the sort of salopettes that you put on at the start of the day & only take off when you are safely off the mountain.  Polartec  Neo Shell fabric provides waterproof & highly breathable performance with added stretch to make them extremely comfortable to wear for extended periods. The face fabric is a densely woven flat finish high grade nylon that gives the  Vanir superb durability. The high front bib features vertical twin chest pockets & fully adjustable & removable braces with electro plated steel buckles for strength & corrosion resistance. The back of the bib is cut lower & made from mesh fabric for increased breathability, especially when carrying a pack. An integral waist belt helps to cinch in any excess fabric & improves insulation when its really nasty outside.  The  Vanir has an athletic fit, they are narrower in the legs, to avoid excess fabric and maximise performance. Diamond crotch patterning & articulated knees improve mobility & the knees are reinforced to protect this vulnerable area.  Jottnar have decided to avoid full length zips as they can form a bulky uncomfortable area at the waist, especially when wearing a harness. The YKK  Aquaguard ¾ zips used have two way zippers to provide ventilation. The internal snow gaiter is fully removable if you want to use the  Vanir for less extreme duties, & is fitted with elastic grippers & a lace hook.   An external Kevlar reinforced instep reduces crampon damage & wear.  A thoroughly brilliant pair of mountain salopettes, well designed & uncompromising in quality & function.
