Also known as Orange Blossom or Neroli Bigarade this essential oil is distilled from the flowers of the cultivated Bitter Orange tree. The Orange flowers must be distilled immediately after picking as they decay very quickly. Tunisia is the most highly regarded producer of this exotic floral oil. This delightful oil has been carefully distilled in Tunisia with brand new top quality equipment by skilled and experienced distillers. The difference is apparent in the quality.
The Neroli in this product is 100% pure and natural. For your convenience it has been diluted to 5% in Coconut Oil a wonderfully light moisturising oil. It can be used directly on the skin as a perfume or combined with other oils as a massage or bath blend.
Try wearing one drop behind each ear before an important interview. A few drops added to your favourite facial oil will also benefit any skincare routine.
Coriander essential oil is distilled from the ripe seeds (fruit) of the coriander herb. It is cultivated all over Europe particularly in Russia. The oil is colourless-to-yellow and has a pleasant smell. Another essential oil can be produced from coriander by the steam-distillation of the fresh and dried leaves. This oil has one main constituent - Decyl Aldehyde - quite different from the seed oil which has a high percentage of Linalol. The seed oil is far safer for aromatherapy use.
When convalescing or generally lacking appetite try a daily abdomen massage with 1 drop of Coriander and 2 drops of Bergamot blended in two teaspoons of Peach Kernel oil. Always massage the abdomen in a clockwise direction.
Try 2 drops of Coriander and 2 drops of Ginger diluted in one teaspoon of Coconut oil and added to a warm bath to lift your spirits and ease general aches and pains.
It is important to remember that whilst essential oils are being used it is wise not to drink alcohol. This is particularly applicable when using Coriander. Use in moderation at all times.
There are several types of oil produced from the Juniper plant. One is the superior quality Juniperberry oil made from the berries and the other main one often referred to as Juniper oil is an inferior product distilled from the twigs and leaves. The juniper fruits are widely used for gin production. Some juniper oils are produced as a by-product of the fermentation process. Absolute Aromas Juniperberry oil is steam distilled from premier-grade juniper berries giving an excellent high quality oil ideal for aromatherapy.
Juniperberry is best known for cleansing and encouraging elimination. To improve the appearance of cellulite try vigorous massage with a blend of 2 drops of Juniperberry and 2 drops of Grapefruit in 10ml of Coconut oil. Added to unfragranced shower gel the same essential oils have a cleansing and refreshing effect ideal for beating those morning-after blues! Juniperberry is useful after any period of indulgence - try making the following body massage oil a New Year resolution Blend together 30ml of Peach Kernel oil 4 drops of Juniperberry 4 drops of Rosemary and 3 drops of Geranium. Apply daily preferably in the morning.
Not to be used during pregnancy or by those with kidney disorders. Best used within a year of opening.
Extracted by steam distillation from crude camphor (the crystalline resin of mature trees) there are several species of Camphor – the Ho Sho variety is used to produce Ho Wood essential oil.
This Absolute Aromas Ho Wood oil is 95% Linalol a gentle and safe natural constituent. It has a sweet and relaxing aroma which blends well with Cedarwood Bergamot Lavender and Geranium. Absolute Aromas does not stock Rosewood for ethical reasons (it is a Brazilian rainforest tree and therefore an endangered species) because of its high Linalol content Ho Wood can be considered as an alternative.
To create a pleasant and relaxing atmosphere try adding 3 drops of Ho Wood 1 drop of Lavender and 2 drops of Bergamot to a burner or diffuser.

Thyme Oil is water and steam-distilled from the partially dried wild herb Thymus Vulgaris. Distillation is mainly undertaken in Spain but also occurs elsewhere in the Mediterranean region. There are many different species of Thyme and within Thymus Vulgaris there are a variety of chemotypes that change the constituent make-up of the oil significantly. The most common chemotypes are Thymol and Carvacrol which contain high levels of toxic Phenols (up to 60% Thymol and Carvacrol). Absolute Aromas offers Sweet Thyme which is sweeter less toxic and less irritant than the Thymol and Carvacrol types with a maximum 3% concentration of these components.
Try adding 1 drop each of Thyme Lemon and Rosemary to the water in an oil burner to help create a germ-free zone during times of family ills.
Blend 2 drops of Thyme 3 drops of Geranium and 1 drop of Palmarosa in a teaspoon of Peach Kernel oil. Use a body massage oil to help you get back on your feet after illness or if you are feeling run-down.
Do not use Sweet Thyme during pregnancy. Using Thyme in the bath may irritate those with sensitive skin.

This oil is pale blue/green in colour. England is the top source for this wonderful all-round soothing oil and Absolute Aromas has selected an oil of consistently high quality grown and distilled in the UK. The small flower heads used are labour-intensive to grow and pick and yield very little essential oil which explains the high price.
Along with Lavender Roman Chamomile can be described as a panacea in aromatherapy and is one of the most useful and popular of all essentail oils. Being one of the gentler oils it is safe for use on all the family except during early pregnancy.
Try blending 4 drops of Chamomile and 4 drops of Lavender in 2 teaspoonfuls of Sunflower oil and adding to a cool bath for dry sensitive skin to encourage relaxation or ease general aches & pains.
Incorporate a steam facial into your weekly skincare routine. After cleansing add 2 drops of Chamomile and 1 drop of Geranium to a bowl of just-boiled water drape a towel across your head and shoulders lean over the bowl and allow the vapours to penetrate your skin. Pat your face dry and apply a moisturiser.
Myrtle oil is produced by steam distillation of the leaves twigs and sometimes flowers of this fragrant shrub which grows wild across Southern Europe and Northern Africa.
Myrtle has a gentle camphoraceous aroma which is also sweet and fresh. It blends well with Lavender Rosemary Clary Sage spice oils Bergamot and other citrus oils. For a cleansing uplifting aroma try 3 drops of Myrtle with 2 drops of Bergamot and 1 drop of Lime in a burner or diffuser.
Other members of Myrtle’s family include Tea Tree and Eucalyptus and as can be expected from this it is highly anti-septic and clearing. Myrtle is not as harsh as its relatives and is ideal for use on children. To keep winter chills at bay try diffusing 2 drops of Myrtle in a child’s bedroom half an hour before bedtime.
As its aroma is less stimulating than other anti-septic oils try adding 4 drops of Myrtle and 2 drops of Bergamot (blended in 10ml of Sweet Almond oil) to warm bathwater at bedtime (halve the number of drops for children from 3 to 12).
Ylang Ylang means flower of flowers and is extracted by steam distillation from the flowers of a tropical tree that grows in the Indian Ocean.
When Ylang Ylang is distilled the first fraction is separated out and called Ylang Ylang Extra. The next fraction is known as Ylang Ylang I then II and finally III. Ylang Ylang Extra is very highly regarded and finds its way into top quality perfumes. Though the chemical profiles are very similar between the oils the Extra is richer in many of the top notes.
Absolute Aromas has selected this exquisite Ylang Ylang Extra from the Comores Island in the Indian Ocean where the climate and soil is ideal for excellent quality Ylang Ylang.
For a sensual massage blend mix 2 drops of Ylang Ylang Extra and 2 drops of Sandalwood in 10ml of Sweet Almond oil. Exotic the Absolute Aromas aromatherapy blend is based on this combination.
Ylang Ylang is one of the most popular essential oils for diffusing. It has a wonderfully exotic aroma in its own right but blends well with Sandalwood Bergamot Rose Jasmine May Chang or Sweet Orange.
Ravensara is steam distilled from the leaves of a tall forest tree native to Madagascar with some cultivation on the Islands of Reunion and Mauritius. Ravensara is a versatile oil along with the likes of Lavender making it popular choice especially for children.
Sweet Marjoram (Origanum Majorana) is well known as a culinary herb cultivated in gardens all over the world. Steam distillation of the herb Origanum Majorana gives this strongly aromatic oil vaguely reminiscent of Nutmeg and Cardamom. Egypt is the prime source for this oil. It is important to differentiate between the various types of Marjoram Thyme and Oregano as their names tend to get very confusing even to experts. Sweet Marjoram Essential Oil makes up only a small proportion of the Marjoram oils produced most of which tend to be Spanish Marjoram. Spanish Marjoram (Oregano) is a completely different species Thymus Masticina and the so-called Wild Marjoram is the common garden herb Origanum Vulgare cultivated all over the world. Did you know?Used by the ancient Greeks in medicines perfumes and other toiletries. Specific Safety Advice. Do not use during pregnancy
The crude version is a heavy sticky oil very high in vitamins and minerals and particularly suited to weathered or mature skin. The refined version is lighter and more versatile but less rich in nutrients. They are both ideally suited for use in facial blends or for adding to blends to boost the vitamin content.
In common with other Eucalyptus species Eucalyptus Citriodora (Lemon-scented Eucalyptus) is originally from Australia but is now cultivated mainly in China and Brazil. It is often used as a minor ingredient in soap and detergent perfumes to add freshness and is commonly the active ingredient in natural insect repellents. Eucalyptus Radiata and Globulus have a higher pinene content and are therefore more useful in steam inhalations.
Use 8-10 drops of Eucalyptus Citriodora in a diffuser or burner to ward off insects (try placing the battery-operated Aroma-Mouse under the table at outdoors parties). Alternatively dilute 5 drops of Eucalyptus Citriodora in 10ml Absolute Aromas Coconut oil (do not use the unfractionated or solid version) – apply a light coating to exposed areas of skin. Avoid the eyes and mouth.
To refresh and cleanse tired feet add 3 drops of Eucalyptus Citriodora 1 drop of Cypress and 2 drops of Tea Tree to a bowl of warm water or footbath/spa and soak for ten minutes.
Eucalyptus Citriodora may irritate those with sensitive skin and should be avoided when taking homeopathic remedies.

Acknowledged as the best quality Peppermint available English Peppermint is at the luxury end of the market. The normal American mentha piperita tends to go into products such as toothpaste and confectionery. English peppermint (also known as Mitcham Peppermint) is used for after-dinner mints and mint liqueurs. It is a much smoother fuller and more rounded oil than the standard product. It has an unusually high content of methylesters (giving excellent body and sweetness) and a modest content of the bitter tasting ketone Menthone.
Peppermint as used in after-dinner mints is popular after a bout of over-indulgence. Blend 1 drop of Peppermint with 5ml of Sweet Almond oil for a comforting tummy rub (massage in a clockwise direction!).
Try adding 4 drops to a bowl of warm water for a wonderfully refreshing footbath. Also a good insect repellent – use in a burner or diffuser or add 10 drops to a plant spray filled with water shake well and spray the room pets’ bedding etc. (Avoid polished wood – may cause bleaching of fabric.)
Do not use Peppermint during the first 4 months of pregnancy and with care thereafter.
North America has become the world’s largest producer of this oil which is steam distilled from the leaves of the familiar fast-growing herb. Most of the production goes into confectionery and toiletries – its sweet cooling aroma is familiar to all of us. The American crops are descendants of the highest quality peppermint – Mitcham oil – which is only produced in small quantities in the UK (Absolute Aromas also stocks an English Peppermint). Because of the size of its crop the USA has avoided the frequent adulteration of Peppermint oil which occurs elsewhere in the world.
US Peppermint can be used in exactly the same way as English Peppermint. Its aroma is lighter less pungent and more familiar many people prefer it.
To refresh tired feet try blending 4 drops of Peppermint with 10ml of Sweet Almond and massaging this well into the feet. For maximum benefit the feet can then be soaked in warm or cool water for 10 minutes and patted dry.
Peppermint is a useful addition to massage blends to aid digestion. Try 2 drops of Peppermint in a teaspoon of Grapeseed oil – massage into the abdomen using clockwise strokes.
Peppermint should not be used during early pregnancy.

The main origins for Grapefruit are Italy Israel and USA though now South Africa is coming strongly into the market. Absolute Aromas selected this excellent Israeli product for its clean fresh odour.
Grapefruit has a wonderful uplifting aroma like many of the citrus oils and is cleansing and refreshing! If in need of a pick-me-up first thing in the morning try adding 3 drops of Grapefruit 2 drops of Rosemary and 1 drop of Bergamot blended in a teaspoon of Sweet Almond oil to a bath. Alternatively stir the same essential oils into a dose of unfragranced shower gel. To improve the appearance of cellulite blend 3 drops of Grapefruit and 3 drops of Juniperberry with 15ml of Coconut oil and massage the area vigorously. Try to work in the direction of the heart.
In a burner or diffuser Grapefruit blends well with the other citrus oils and herbs (Rosemary Clary Sage Thyme Lavender etc).

There are hundreds of varieties of Eucalyptus Radiata has a sweeter more rounded aroma and is less likely to irritate the skin than the more common Eucalyptus Globulus. Radiata can be used in all of the instances where Globulus would be appropriate and may therefore be the preferred Eucalytpus for children etc.
Eucalyptus is well-known for its clearing and anti-septic properties and is thus extremely useful during the winter months. It can be very effective in a steam inhalation to help congestion.
Australian Aborigines, refer to the plant as ‘Kino’ and bind the leaves to serious wounds.
Pelargonium graveolens is not to be confused with the household variety of geranium, which is a completely different species.

This Lemon is grown organically in Sicily. It is expressed (the peel is pressed) to give this wonderful zesty oil of outstanding quality.
This tangy oil has a clearing effect and so is particularly useful when recovering from general winter ills. It is very effective used in an oil burner. Try adding 2 drops of Lemon 2 drops of Lavender and 1 drop of Geranium to the water in an oil burner when feeling under the weather.
This slightly pungent oil distilled from the partly dried leaves and twigs of Cinnamomum Zeylanicum is often used in perfumery for its warm spicy oriental notes. It has a high level of Eugenol (80-90%) which may cause skin irritation especially in baths and thus it is sold only for use in a burner or diffuser unless otherwise advised by a qualified aromatherapist.
Cinnamon has a warming and spicy aroma which blends wonderfully with the citrus oils and other spices such as Clove or Nutmeg. To create the perfect atmosphere over the festive season blend 1 drop of Cinnamon Leaf 1 drop of Clove Bud and 3 drops of Mandarin in a burner or diffuser.

The best one for aromatherapy use is the eucalyptol (cineol) chemotype from Tunisia Morocco and Italy. The camphor chemotype comes from Spain and the verbenone chemotype comes from Algeria and Corsica. The latter is contra-indicated due to neuro-toxicity. Absolute Aromas supplies the finest quality organic Moroccan Rosemary which is the superior product. This organic essential oil has been produced by steam distillation. The essential oil content of Rosemary is quite high making this oil quite easy to produce.
Rosemary is the classic get up and go oil. Try adding 3 drops of Rosemary 2 drops of Lemon and 1 drop of Peppermint to a tepid bath before an important occasion.
Adding a few drops to the final rinsing water for dark hair can help keep a natural shine.
Do not use Rosemary during the first 4 months of pregnancy.
A fine moisturising oil which is readily absorbed by the skin and is particularly suited for facial massage and blends (try adding Avocado Borage or Wheatgerm oils to boost the vitamin content). Suits all skin types but especially dry mature or delicate skin.
Pelargonium graveolens is not to be confused with the household variety of geranium which is a completely different species. The best geranium is Bourbon Geranium which comes from the island of La Réunion (previously known as Île de Bourbon) 500 miles east of Madagascar in the Indian Ocean. The island has the ideal climate and soil conditions for production of geranium. It is a greenish coloured oil with a very strong well-balanced odour. The difference between this oil and the Egyptian or Chinese is so significant that Absolute Aromas also stocks an Egyptian Geranium.
Geranium is an excellent balancing oil for all-round use and is especially popular with women. The odour of the Bourbon Geranium is quite powerful and it may dominate over other oils in a blend. Try blending 1 drop of Geranium with 2 drops of Lavender and 2 drops of Mandarin in a teaspoon of Sweet Almond oil for use as a relaxing refreshing bath oil. Alternatively blend the same oils with two teaspoons of Peach Kernel oil for a special hydrating body moisturiser with a delicious aroma.
In a diffuser or burner Geranium blends very well with the citrus oils. It is deodorising cleansing and uplifting as well as having good insect-repellent properties.
The two main types of Benzoin are Siam (styrax tonkinensis) and Sumatra (styrax benzoin). The Sumatran type is much cheaper to produce and coarser than the superior Siam quality. As Benzoin is a resinoid it comes in solid form. Absolute Aromas has used an odourless diluent - benzyl benzoate - to liquefy it so that it is practical to use. Even diluted to 40% it can still solidify easily and the bottle may be warmed in the hands before use.
Benzoin is balsamic warming and penetrating but gentle. It is useful for all the family particularly during the winter months when it is ideal for use in steam inhalations as well as in baths or massage blends for dry or weather-worn skin. In a steam inhalation try blending with Eucalyptus (especially Eucalyptus Radiata for children) Tea Tree or Frankincense.
As a treat for weather-worn skin (gardeners windsurfers etc take note!) add a 2 drops each of Benzoin Lavender and Orange to a jar of unfragranced hand cream or to 10ml of Sweet Almond oil and massage in thoroughly.
Vetiver essential oil is produced from the rootlets of a grass which grows wild in many parts of India Sri Lanka and other parts of Asia. The rootlets are dried cut and chopped then soaked in water prior to distillation.
The grass is cultivated for distillation in many parts of the world the most important producers being Haiti and Java. The Indian production to date is not of a very good quality and goes mostly into the local soap and perfume industry.
Vetiver is a heavy viscous oil with a rich undertone of precious wood notes. Absolute Aromas has selected this Haitian oil for its excellent quality. Most Javan producers burn off the grass before digging up the roots and this often gives a smoky note to the oil whereas the Haitian producers cut the grass and use it for feeding cattle or for grass mats so the oil has a much cleaner aroma.
Vetiver is extremely viscous. A large nozzle in the bottle helps to some extent but it may require gentle warming of the bottle in the hands or warm water (and a lot of patience) to pour a few drops out. Blend 1 drop each of Vetiver Jasmine and Sandalwood in 10ml of Peach Kernel oil for a most luxurious massage oil.
To a teaspoon of Sweet Almond oil add 1 drop each of Vetiver Patchouli and Lavender. Swish this into a very warm bath to help shrug off aches and pains on cold winter nights.
Botanical name Thymus mastichina Thyme cineole type. Country of Origin Spain. Method of Cultivation Conventionally grown. Method of Extraction Steam distilled. Part extracted Whole plant. ColorClear to pale yellow. Perfumery Note Middle. Aroma Spicy warm herbaceous much more camphoraceous and medicinal smelling than the Sweet Marjoram.
The best Clary Sage comes from Russia which is by far the most important producer although France often plays a significant role in distribution. Absolute Aromas has selected a very high quality oil.
The pungent herbaceous aroma of Clary Sage has a strongly uplifting yet soothing effect on the mind. In times of worry try soaking in a warm bath containing 2 drops of Clary Sage 2 drops of Geranium and 3 drops of Lavender all diluted in a teaspoon of Peach Kernel oil.
An excellent relaxing massage oil can be made by blending 1 drop of Clary Sage 1 drop of Roman Chamomile and 2 drops of Sandalwood in 10ml of Sweet Almond oil.
It is important to remember that whilst essential oils are being used it is wise not to drink alcohol. This is particularly applicable when using Clary Sage. Do not use Clary Sage during pregnancy – it is however an extremely useful oil during childbirth. Use in moderation at all times.

Mandarin has a sweet familiar aroma and is considered one of the gentler oils making it popular for use by pregnant women and on children in very low dilutions. After a hard day try soaking in a bath containing 3 drops of Mandarin 3 drops of Geranium and 2 drops of Patchouli all blended in a teaspoon of Apricot Kernel oil.
If pregnant a gentle massage of the bump using 1 drop of Mandarin in a teaspoon of Apricot Kernel is always pleasant. As with all essential oils extra care must be taken during pregnancy particularly during the first trimester. If in doubt seek medical assistance or consult a qualified aromatherapist.

Expressed from the peel of the Bergamot fruit (which is like a miniature orange) the bergaptene content of this oil causes photosensitivity in sunlight. It is recommended for use in massage only by qualified aromatherapists but is ideal for the home oil burner/diffuser.
A really special rounded citrus aroma Bergamot is the perfect oil to help lift that Monday-morning feeling any day of the week! Try adding 20 drops to a bottle of unfragranced shower gel to give you get up and go in the mornings.

There are many types of cedarwood and it is important to be clear which one is which. Virginian Cedarwood comes from the cypress family and the oil has an odour of freshly sawn wood. It is usually distilled from sawdust from the lumbermills of the USA and is used extensively in perfumery and soap manufacture. Mixed with Sri Lankan Ctironella it was once a popular mosquito repellent but has since been largely replaced by chemicals. Absolute Aromas Virginian Cedarwood is Virginian Light (light refers to the method of distillation).
One of the more masculine of essential oils Cedarwood is popularly used in toiletries for men. Cedarwood’s anti-septic deodorising and insect-repellent properties make it a very useful oil for burning or diffusing. Try blending with any of the citrus oils.
To help improve the condition of the scalp and encourage healthy hair add 3 drops each of Cedarwood and Rosemary to 10ml of Coconut oil (or 5ml Coconut and 5ml Wheatgerm for very dry hair) and massage thoroughly into the scalp. Leave for as long as possible before shampooing out.
This oil should be used in moderation never be used during pregnancy and it may cause skin irritation in those with sensitive skin.

Absolute Aromas have visited many of the farms themselves in order to ensure that the high levels of quality and purity that have made Absolute Aromas stand out in the marketplace remain at the forefront of their company ethos.
Lemongrass is produced from two totally distinct botanical species of Cymbopogon. Citratus is found only under cultivation and despite early origins in Sri Lanka and India it is sometimes confusingly referred to as West Indian Lemongrass. The other type is Cymbopogon Flexuosus which is only cultivated in relatively limited areas of India. Lemongrass oil is distilled from the fresh or partly dried leaves of the grass. It is generally easy to produce and its yield is quite good. However organic availability of this oil is fairly low as only a few countries produce Lemongrass organically.
Like most lemon-scented oils Lemongrass can be very refreshing.

It is extensively used in perfumes in combination with a wide variety of other oils. This oil is unusual in that it that tends to improve with age. This organic essential oil is produced by steam distillation of the leaves. It is not very easy to produce as it is a very sticky oil and can result in a low yield.
The distinctive aroma of Patchouli makes it familiar to many people and may explain its popularity in perfumes and skincare products. Try blending 1 drop of Patchouli 1 drop of Geranium and 2 drops of Bergamot in 10ml of Apricot Kernel oil to use as a facial oil.
A few drops each of Patchouli and Lavender added to an unfragranced handcream or vegetable oil make a treat for neglected hands and feet.
The crude version is a heavy sticky oil very high in vitamins and minerals and particularly suited to weathered or mature skin. The refined version is lighter and more versatile but less rich in nutrients. They are both ideally suited for use in facial blends or for adding to blends to boost the vitamin content.

Ylang Ylang is one of the most popular essential oils for diffusing. It has a wonderfully exotic aroma in its own right but blends well with Bergamot Rose or Sweet Orange.
This oil is entirely different from Virginian or Texan Cedarwoods. It comes from the Pine family as opposed to the Cypress family and is both chemically and olfactorily distinct. It is thought to be related to the Lebanon Cedars of the Eastern Mediterranean. The oil is distilled from the sawdust or stumps of trees which grow abundantly in the Atlas mountains of Morocco. As with Virginian Cedarwood this oil should be used in moderation never be used during pregnancy and it may cause skin irritation in those with sensitive skin.
One of the more masculine of essential oils Cedarwood is popularly used in toiletries for men. For a light aftershave facial oil add 1 drop of Cedarwood 2 drops of Patchouli and 2 drops of Bergamot to 15ml of Jojoba oil.
Cedarwood’s anti-septic deodorising and insect-repellent properties make it a very useful oil for burning or diffusing. Try blending with any of the citrus oils.
Expressed Lime oil is produced in the same way as other citrus fruits by pressing the peel of the fruit to extract the oil. However Expressed Lime Oil is extremely photo-toxic and so should be avoided. Absolute Aromas does not sell this product.
The alternative is Distilled Lime Oil which is by far the most prominent type. Most people prefer the distilled oils aroma as it more closely resembles the fruit itself. Distilled Lime oil is widely used for flavouring whereas the expressed oil tends to be preferred by the perfume industry. The two main sources of Lime oil are Mexico and Peru. This oil is from Mexico and is a delightful oil very reminiscent of fresh limes - a wonderful revitalising oil.
Refresh aching feet by adding 1 drop each of Lime Lemon and Geranium to a bowl of warm water and soak feet for at least five minutes.
Add 1 drop each of Lime Lavender and Neroli to the water in a new plant spray and use as a natural room spray. Avoid polished surfaces and plants.

Fir Siberian oil is steam distilled from the foliage of A. sibirica a component of the boreal forests of Siberia and is an ingredient in air fresheners and inhalants. An essential oil is water or steam distilled from the crushed cones of A. alba. This oil is produced in Austria Germany Switzerland and Yugoslavia but only on a modest scale. It has a fresh sweet odour said to resemble bitter orange oil and is used in colognes.
Absolute Aromas Sandalwood is produced by the Mysore Government. It is the top quality of oil available and comes from controlled and sustainable supply of trees in the state of Mysore the traditional centre for Sandalwood.

A drop each of Sandalwood Geranium and Bergamot in an oil burner can help create a cosy atmosphere.
Melissa is one of the most adulterated and copied essential oils and genuine Melissa oil makes up only a small fraction of the amount that is sold commercially. Absolute Aromas also stocks a True Melissa but as the cost is so prohibitive we produce this blend of essential oils to resemble the aroma. The blend includes Lemon Lemongrass and Citronella among others.
As this oil is already a blend it makes an ideal diffusing oil in its own right. However it complements Cedarwood Rosemary Geranium Lavender Ylang Ylang or the spice oils. For a refreshing cleansing aroma try 5 drops of Melissa Type with 2 drops of Rosemary in a burner or diffuser. For a smoother more floral aroma try 2 drops of Geranium with 4 drops of Melissa Type or 3 drops of Lavender with 4 drops of Melissa Type.
As its components are oils high in insect-repellent chemicals Melissa Type is also very good at keeping flying pests at bay. For this try blending 5 drops of Melissa Type with 2 drops of Cedarwood in a burner or diffuser.
Citronella comes in two main types - Java and Ceylon. Absolute Aromas has introduced an oil from Sri Lanka which is the only source of the Ceylon type produced from the Lenabatu variety of citronella grass. Java-type is produced in many countries other than Indonesia in particular China. Citronella is very widely used in household cleaning products and insecticides.
Citronella has a powerful lemon aroma which blends well with all citrus and woody oils. For a natural air freshener – add 3 drops of Citronella 3 drops of Geranium and 2 drops of Pine to a clean plant spray filled with water shake well and spray into the air. Avoid polished surfaces and pets!
2 drops of Citronella 2 drops of Cedarwood and 2 drops of Eucalyptus Citriodora in an oil burner or diffuser can help maintain an insect-free BBQ!
Do not use Citronella during pregnancy or on those with sensitive skin.
The essential oil is extracted by distillation from the seeds and is not to be confused with the fixed or carrier oil which is made by macerating the root in oil. Absolute Aromas also stocks a Carrot carrier oil which is macerated in Sesame.
Carrot Seed essential oil is a rich amber colour and has a woody and earthy aroma which blends well with citrus and spice oils as well as Geranium and Cedarwood. All parts of the Carrot plant have been used as traditional medicines – the leaves are listed in the Herbal Pharmacopoeia as a diuretic and the seeds are a traditional Chinese remedy for stomach complaints.
Carrot Seed essential oil makes an excellent addition to skincare products particularly for dry or mature skin. As an alternative moisturiser try blending 2 drops of Carrot Seed with 2 drops of Geranium in 10ml of Evening Primrose and apply daily.
Expressed from the peel of the Bergamot fruit the bergaptene content of this oil causes photosensitivity in sunlight. It is recommended for use in massage only by qualified aromatherapists but is ideal for the home oil burner/diffuser. Absolute Aromas also stocks a bergaptene-free Bergamot known as Bergamot FCF which is safer for use on the skin.
A really special rounded citrus aroma Bergamot is the perfect oil to help lift that Monday-morning feeling any day of the week! Try adding 20 drops to a bottle of unfragranced shower gel to give you get up and go in the mornings.
Bergamot is strongly anti-septic use in a burner to cleanse and uplift a room’s atmosphere. Experiment by blending with the other citrus oils Cedarwood Frankincense Lavender or Clary Sage.
Sweet orange is a lower-cost essential oil because it tends to be produced as a by-product of orange juice. Brazil is by far the biggest producer dominating the market. After careful selection of a number of good quality orange oils Absolute Aromas selected this exceptionally mouth-watering Spanish oil reminiscent of juicy oranges.
This wonderful oil makes an excellent addition to any winter evening. For a heart-warming bath blend 2 drops of Sweet Orange 3 drops of Lavender and 2 drops of Benzoin in a teaspoon of Peach Kernel oil before adding to a hot bath for a long soak!
For the perfect Christmas atmosphere add 3 drops of Sweet Orange and 2 drops of Frankincense to the water in an oil burner.
To be used in moderation by those with sensitive skin.

For problem skin blend 2 drops of Tea Tree in 5ml (a teaspoon) of Jojoba oil – apply twice daily. Or try a weekly steam facial using 1 drop of Tea Tree with 2 drops of Mandarin in a bowl of just-boiled water. Tea Tree may irritate some sensitive skins and although a very small amount may be dabbed neat on spots bites etc. by most people this is not recommended.
To help keep feet fresh and healthy try using 2 drops of Tea Tree with 2 drops of Lemon in a foot bath. To maintain healthy hair for school-children and adults alike dilute 5 drops of Tea Tree 3 drops of Geranium and 2 drops of Lavender in 20ml of Coconut oil. Massage into the scalp and leave as long as possible before washing out.
Expressed from the peel of the Bergamot fruit this Bergamot oil is FCF (Furocoumarin-free also known as bergaptene-free). The bergaptene content of the full version of this oil causes photosensitivity ie it should not be used on the skin before exposure to sunlight or UV sunbeds. Absolute Aromas has this Bergamot oil re-distilled in the UK to remove the waxes and terpenes including bergaptene. After distillation the oil is clear compared with the deep green colour of the original oil and is safer to use on the skin.
A really special rounded citrus aroma Bergamot is the perfect oil to help lift that Monday-morning feeling any day of the week! Try adding 20 drops to a bottle of unfragranced shower gel to give you get up and go in the mornings.

Rose has been highly prized for centuries. There are over 10000 types of cultivated rosemany of which are extensively used in toiletries for both men and women. It is extremely difficult to extract oil from the petals of the rose. The two main ways are first solvent extraction of a concrete which is then produced into an absolute and second distillation to produce an essential oil. Production of an absolute gives a better yield but distillation gives a much finer fragrance.
Rose Otto (Otto comes from the Ottoman Empire) is the distilled oil produced by water or steam distillation from very fresh petals. The fragility of the petals necessitates great skill in production. Absolute Aromas has selected this rose otto for its purity and quality.
The Rose Otto in this product is 100% pure and natural. For your convenience it has been diluted to 5% in Coconut Oil a wonderfully light moisturising oil. It can be used directly on the skin as a perfume or combined with other oils as a massage or bath blend.

Also known as West Indian Bay this Bay is not to be confused with Laurus Nobilis or Sweet Bay which is a different species.
The fruits of Bay are an ingredient of Allspice. The essential oil is extracted from the leaves of the plant but is also both warming and aromatic. West Indian Bay is the main ingredient of the old-fashioned Bay Rum hair tonic which was said to stimulate hair growth and help with greasy or problem hair. For a home-made hair tonic try adding two or three drops of Bay to your usual shampoo or conditioner. Alternatively blend 3 drops with a teaspoon of vodka (to dilute) add to warm water and use as the final rinse after shampooing.
Bay has a high Eugenol content which makes it irritating to mucous membranes it should not therefore be used in the bath and should be used in moderation and not on young children.
For a winter-warming aroma try adding 2 drops of Bay 1 drop of Cinnamon and 3 drops of Sweet Orange to a burner or diffuser.

The two main ways are first solvent extraction of a concrete which is then produced into an absolute and second distillation to produce an essential oil. Rosa Centifolia and its close relatives are cultivated widely in Morocco to produce a rose concrete from which an absolute is extracted. The product is also known as rose de mai absolute. The yield of absolute from Rosa Centifolia is somewhat higher than for the Turkish and Bulgarian Rosa Damascena whereas the yield of the distilled oil is somewhat lower. Thus it is common to find the absolutes coming from Morocco and the distilled oils coming from Turkey and Bulgaria.
The Rose Absolute used in this product is 100% pure and natural. For your convenience it has been diluted to 5% in Coconut Oil a wonderfully light moisturising oil. It can be used directly on the skin as a perfume or combined with other oils as a massage or bath blend.
Try blending 6 drops of Rose Absolute 5% Dilution with 1 drop of Patchouli and 2 drops of Benzoin and add to the water for a warm pampering bath.

The normal American mentha piperita tends to go into products such as toothpaste and confectionery. English peppermint (also known as Mitcham Peppermint) is used for after-dinner mints and mint liqueurs. It is a much smoother fuller and more rounded oil than the standard product. It has an unusually high content of methylesters (giving excellent body and sweetness) and a modest content of the bitter tasting ketone Organic Peppermint is susceptible to “rust” making it very hard to produce. Menthone Peppermint as used in after-dinner mints is popular after a bout of over-indulgence.
(Avoid polished wood – may cause bleaching of fabric.)Do not use Peppermint during the first 4 months of pregnancy and with care thereafter.
The reference to German reflects the fact that this essential oil used to be distilled mostly in Germany. When fresh this oil is deep blue fairly viscous and has an intense sweetness that some people find unpleasant. It is extensively used in pharmaceutical products for its healing properties. As with Roman Chamomile the high price reflects the low yield and labour-intensive processes involved in producing this oil.
German Chamomile is particularly effective when used with a compress either hot or cold. If you are suffering from a buzzing head after a stressful day try adding 2 drops of German Chamomile and 1 drop of Lavender to a bowl of ice cold water. Dip a folded face flannel into the water wring it out and place it across your forehead lie back and relax. Alternatively try using in a hot compress to ease general aches and pains.
German Chamomile is also an excellent addition to skincare products for dry or sensitive skin. Try 1 drop of German Chamomile and 3 drops of Mandarin in 10ml of Avocado oil as an alternative moisturiser.
Do not use German Chamomile at all during early pregnancy and only on specialist advice thereafter.

This organic essential oil has been extracted from the skin of the fruit. As with the production of other citrus essential oils the juice of the grapefruit is a by-product from extraction making the oil relatively easy to extract.

This lavender is grown organically in Provence in France. It is a “population” lavender which is grown from seeds. It is a fine lavender that grows at higher altitudes. The lowest field that this product grows in is about 800m and the highest is over 1300m. The high altitude lavender apart from its wonderful fine fragrance has a higher ester content making it an excellent therapeutic oil.

This oil is water-distilled from the dried flower-buds of the Clove tree. There are three different oils obtained from the clove tree - leaf bud and stem. Of these three bud is the safest to use because it has the lowest Eugenol content though it is still as high as 60-90%. Clove oil is used extensively in perfumes cosmetics and dental preparations. Clove Bud oil is recommended for use in a burner or diffuser only unless otherwise advised by a qualified aromatherapist.
To help stave off winter chills add 1 drop of Clove Bud 2 drops of Lavender and 2 drops of Bergamot to the water in an oil burner or diffuser and allow the aroma to fill the room.
Clove buds have traditionally been used to reduce the pain of toothache. A hot compress using essential oils can also be very comforting. Try adding 1 drop of Clove Bud and 1 drop of Lavender to a bowl of hand-hot water soak a flannel in the water and wring out. Place the flannel on the affected area and leave until it loses its warmth.

As a herbal remedy Helichrysum has been used in Europe for centuries to relieve respiratory conditions headaches and skin problems. In aromatherapy Helichrysum is a useful additive to all skincare preparations especially for problem or mature skin. As an alternative moisturiser for problem skin try 1 drop of Helichrysum 1 drop of Roman Chamomile and 1 drop of Rose Absolute in 10ml of Jojoba – apply morning and night.
Also try using 2 drops of Helichrysum in a diffuser or burner in a massage blend or in the bath to lift the spirits and ease the mind after a hard day. Blends well with Chamomile Rose Lavender and Geranium.

Extracted by distillation from the wood of this evergreen tree there are then three extractions made from Camphor – only White Camphor is safe for aromatherapy use as it contains no Safrol (unlike Yellow and Brown Camphor). White Camphor should still however be treated with caution and used in moderation.
Camphor is a traditional ingredient of mothballs and these can be made at home by adding 10 drops of White Camphor to a cotton wool ball and placing these in cupboards drawers etc. (They should be kept well out of the reach of children and pets.)
To keep other airborne pests at bay try adding 5 drops of Camphor to a burner or diffuser.
Oil of May Chang is a comparatively new essential oil to the West. It is steam-distilled from the pepper-shaped fruits (Cubeba) of this tropical tree. The strong lemon odour of the main constituent (Citral - 75%) dominates and hence the oil resembles Lemongrass although it has a rounder and more fruity aroma. Like Lemongrass May Chang is used for the isolation of Citral for lemon flavours and for the production of several perfumery materials as well as Vitamin A. While the synonym Litsea Citrata is often given for May Chang Litsea Citrata is a related species with a lower Citral content.
A wonderful citrus aroma which uplifts cleanses and tones. May Chang is an excellent room deodoriser and insect repellent – use 5 or 6 drops in a traditional candle burner Aroma-Stone or Aroma-Stream.

Also known as Orange Blossom or Neroli Bigarade this essential oil is water distilled from the flowers of the cultivated Bitter Orange tree.
For a wonderfully fragrant bath when you feel that the stresses and strains of life are too much blend 2 drops of Neroli 1 drop of Jasmine and 1 drop of Clary Sage in a teaspoonful of Peach Kernel oil and add to a very warm bath.
Blend 1 drop each of Neroli Geranium and Bergamot in 10ml of Sweet Almond oil and apply to the back and shoulders as a pre-interview massage oil.
Myrrh like Frankincense is distilled from a resin. It is extremely viscous and therefore more difficult to use. Absolute Aromas has used a larger dropper for this oil but with time it may solidify. The only solution is to warm the oil gently in the hands before use and to be patient!
Myrrh has acquired a reputation as a healer over the centuries and as such can be beneficial when used in inhalations to help ease winter ills. Place 1 drop each of Myrrh Benzoin and Lavender in a bowl of boiling water. Drape a towel across your head and shoulders and inhale the vapours for a few minutes.
Try blending 1 drop of Myrrh 2 drops of Geranium and 1 drop of Peppermint in 10ml of Coconut oil to use as a massage oil on neglected feet.
Do not use Myrrh during pregnancy.
Elemi oil is steam distilled from the sap of a tree in the same family as those that produce Frankincense and Myrrh. Elemi’s aroma is woody and smoky like Frankincense but the oil contains a higher concentration of terpenes which give it a lighter more lemony note.
Elemi was also used in the embalming process by ancient Egyptians and in modern aromatherapy it can be an alternative for Frankincense for its rejuvenating effects on the skin. Try 2 drops of Elemi and 1 drop of Rose blended with 10ml of Evening Primrose or Borage oil.
The name Elemi is said to be derived from Arabic and means ‘as above so below’. Like Frankincense it is believed to connect the spiritual emotional and physical and is an excellent oil to burn during meditation.
To ease the mind and soothe the senses at the end of a hectic day blend 4 drops of Elemi and 3 drops of Bergamot with 10ml of Peach Kernel oil. Swirl this into a warm bath and lie back and let your thoughts go.
Electric Ceramic Diffuser available in green blue or white this attractive discreet diffuser is controlled by a thermostat it heats up gently and maintains the heat thereafter. For a stronger aroma place the essential oils directly onto the bowl. Available in three colours Green Blue and White.
Rose has been highly prized for centuries. There are over 10000 types of cultivated rose many of which are extensively used in toiletries for both men and women. It is extremely difficult to extract oil from the petals of the rose. The two main ways are first solvent extraction of a concrete which is then produced into an absolute and second distillation to produce an essential oil. Production of an absolute gives a better yield but distillation gives a much finer fragrance. it can solidify easily and the bottle may be warmed in the hands before use.
This wonderful oil taken from the Queen of Flowers has long been popular with manufacturers of skincare products. Try blending 4 drops of Rose 3 drops of Lavender 1 drop of Roman Chamomile and 2 drops of Geranium in 30ml of Peach Kernel oil for a nightime facial oil. Do not use Rose during the first four months of pregnancy.
Pinus sylvestris known as Scotch Pine in the UK and as Norway Pine in Scandinavia is grown all over Europe. The oil is extensively used for disinfectants room sprays and other household products. Absolute Aromas has selected a fine oil from Siberia the major producer of pinus sylvestris.
The fresh resinous aroma of this oil makes it a very good choice for steam inhalations during the cold winter months. Add 1 drop each of Pine Eucalyptus and Lavender to a bowl of boiling water. Lean over the bowl with a towel covering your head and shoulders and inhale the vapours for a couple of minutes.
A few drops of Pine and Mandarin in an oil burner will enhance the Christmas atmosphere of any room during the festive season.
Petitgrain oil is steam distilled from the twigs and leaves of the Bitter Orange tree Citrus Aurantium subspecies Amara. This is the same tree from which Neroli (Orange Blossom) and Bitter Orange essential oils are produced. The Paraguayan oil is distilled exclusively from the bitter-sour subvariety of Bitter Orange trees which grow both semi-wild and cultivated throughout the interior of Paraguay. Production of the oil is dominated by Paraguay with high quality and cost effective production.
Before an important evening out try soaking in a tepid/warm bath containing 3 drops of Petitgrain 1 drop of Rosemary and 2 drops of Bergamot all blended in a teaspoonful of Coconut oil.
Blend the following oils in 10ml of Peach Kernel oil for a delicious-smelling massage oil to help you sleep 1 drop of Petitgrain 2 drops of Neroli and 2 drops of Lavender.
Distilled from the leaves and twigs of a tree in the same family as Tea Tree and Niaouli Cajeput is also strongly anti-septic and has a camphoraceous aroma.
Unlike its more common relatives it has a high Cineol content which makes it skin-sensitising for some individuals. It should not therefore be used in the bath.
Cajeput is a useful addition to steam inhalations to relieve symptoms of colds and other winter chills. Add six drops to a bowl of just-boiled water cover the head with a towel and breathe normally for up to ten minutes.
Cajeput is a common ingredient in pharmaceuticals and dentistry as an antiseptic. For problem skin try 1 drop of Cajeput blended with 5ml (1 teaspoon) of Jojoba and apply twice daily (provided no skin irritation is experienced).
