The Arcteryx Kappa Hoody is a brilliant winter insulated hooded jacket. Whilst not guaranteed completely waterproof it will keep out all but the most extreme weather. Heavily insulated with a 140g/m² synthetic Coreloft polyester fibre the Kappa is perfect for active pursuits in freezing conditions. The Kappa is constructed using N70p Windstopper fabric with critical areas reinforced with N80p-X fabric for increased abrasion resistance. Windstopper fabric is made using the same PTFE membrane as normal Gore-Tex products but without some of the protective layers; this makes it very highly water resistant but not absolutely completely waterproof. Arcteryx further enhance the wet weather performance of the Kappa by taping the critical seams over the shoulders and chest. Our practical experience has shown us that you would have to try very hard indeed, in some pretty horrendous conditions, to get wet in this jacket. The advantage of Windstopper is that it is much more breathable, so better suited to more aerobic activities. Insulation is taken care of by 140g of Coreloft, a siliconised, highly crimped polyester yarn that is highly breathable, compressible and has excellent loft retention. Unlike down Coreloft will retain much of its warmth even if it does get wet. Fully featured with a helmet compatible StormHood with a microsuede lined internal collar for comfort and a plethora of pockets for all your stuff. The Kappa is a brilliant jacket made superbly and suitable for all outdoor winter activities or as a reliable and warm winter jacket. Moisture-resistant outer face fabric Windproof Breathable Insulated Compressible and packable Durable Micro-seam allowance (1.6 mm) reduces bulk and weight DWR finish (Durable Water Repellent) helps repel water from fabric surface Taped seams for added weather proofing Non-quilted, laminated construction eliminates cold spots Athletic fit for a slimmer more flattering profile Laminated brim Helmet compatible StormHood Adjustable hood drawcords Insulated hood Chin guard with brushed microsuede facing for added comfort Integrated fitted collar panel for added warmth and comfort Full front zip with wind flap Bottom snap closure on zip Two-way separating front zip Laminated die-cut Velcro cuff adjusters reduce bulk, and wont catch or tear off Adjustable hem drawcord Drop back hem Chest pocket with zip Two hand pockets with zippers Two internal mesh pockets
The Rab Strata Flex is an incredibly versatile jacket insulated with the amazingly breathable and warm Polartec Alpha; this amazing synthetic insulation allows a degree of airflow to maximise breathability and comfort. The insulation is protected by Pertex Mixcrolight which works with the Alpha to allow maximum breathability and weather resistance. To further increase breathability and maximise efficiency Rab have used Polartec Power Stretch panel under arms. This four way stretch fabric provides complete freedom of movement and features Hard Face technology to improve abrasion and weather resistance. This brilliant piece is designed for fast paced and active adventures and is ideally suited for active use in cold conditions, when you are moving quickly and maximum breathability is your main priority. Polartec Alpha is a woven insulation fabric; think of it like a fluffy string vest, and is much more stable and durable than other synthetic insulation. Because of its more open weave it allows air to flow much more easily, rapidly drawing moisture away from the body creating comfortable breathable insulation for active use in in cold conditions. To maximise the performance of Alpha insulation Rab have developed a polyester mesh lining fabric that is hard wearing yet allows maximum airflow. The face fabric is Pertex Microlight, a durable, lightweight, weather resistant and very breathable 20 denier woven nylon. The combination of these brilliant fabrics and insulation results in a new breed of active warm wear that is set to revolutionise how synthetic insulation is used in the mountains. The Atom LT Hoody is quite simply one of the best lightweight and versatile insulated jackets available; this year its been improved with a lighter, stretchy face fabric and re-designed hood. This fantastic jacket can replace several layers of bulky fleece with one super light and warm layer. Filled with a highly efficient synthetic Coreloft insulation it provides enough warmth for active cold weather pursuits or can be used all year round when the temperature drops. Just about everybody at Trekitt owns one of these, they are just so comfortable and practical. The new face fabric is called Tinthan and is a 100% nylon 46g/m² 20D mechanical stretch nylon rip stop with an air permeable polyurethane coating and a durable DWR (Durable Water Repellant) finish. So the upgraded Atom LT is softer, more compressible, tough and just as practical...genius! The PU coating and DWR finish make this brilliant hooded jacket highly weather resistant, keeping out all but the worst wind and rain. Polartec Hardface Powerstretch side panels provide fantastic freedom of movement and give an anatomical efficient fit whilst enhancing breathability under the arms. The Atom LT now features a re-designed fully helmet compatible hood, that goes over just about any mountaineering helmet. This is a big improvement over the old under helmet design that could be a bit bulky and uncomfortable under your lid. The Atom LT is insulated with 60g/m² Coreloft on the body, sleeves and hood, an incredibly efficient synthetic insulation that performs even when wet and will dry out exceptionally quickly. We have found through practical experience that this jacket is highly water resistant, negating the need for a shell until it really is pouring down. Featuring the usual Arcteryx gorgeousness and finishing touches including the jersey knit stretch cuffs which are just so comfortable and unobtrusive. The Compressor Vest is considered a heavyweight mid layer piece or a super lightweight outer that gives superb freedom of movement whilst on the crag. It allows your arms to work hard and not over heat while it keeps your core protected from the cold winds. The Helium 30 outer fabric is highly windproof protecting the nice warm air that is trapped within the PrimaLoft insulation. The Compressor Vest packs into its own pocket and can be attached to your harness using the stitched in crab loop, so when you do get a bit too warm you can stow it away but still have it close to hand. The Compressor Hooded Jacket is very similar to the M.E. Arete Jacket. They are both considered as a heavyweight mid layer piece or a super lightweight belay jacket and both are constructed using the same Helium 30 outer fabric; however the Compressor is filled with PrimaLoft Gold instead of duck down. This means that this jacket is more suitable for use if you know the day is going to be wet (which in the UK are most days); the reason for this is because PrimaLoft Gold still works when wet where as a down would just die. The Helium 30 fabric itself is highly windproof protecting the nice warm air that is trapped within the PrimaLoft insulation. The adjustable Mountain Hood gives a precise cranial fit and like any decent belay jacket; it packs into its own pocket and can be attached to your harness using the stitched in crab loop. This ultimate alpine jacket is the king of lightweight insulation. The micro baffle construction holds the WR Down 675 from migrating, and the light weight Helium 30 fabric is super light and allows the down to fully loft; this ensures the maximum amount of tiny air pockets are created to capture your body heat while the wind resistant qualities help prevent the loss of this heat. The use of down ensures the best warmth to weight ratio and compressibility compared to any other forms of insulation. With a slightly longer cut, an adjustable Mountain HC hood and the fact it packs into its own pocket with a handy crab loop; you can stow and clip you jacket onto your harness so it‘s easy to get at and throw on when waiting around and belaying. The Lycra cuffs reduces bulk when layering and the adjustable dual tether hem draw cords provide that extra bit of security. The Annapurna Down Jacket from Mountain Equipment is one of their continuously bestselling jackets for those off to this planets extremely cold environments. This is because of its box wall baffle construction throughout the jacket reducing cold spots, and the harder wearing synthetic filled shoulders resist compression damage from pack straps. Its outer is made from Drylite Loft. This totally windproof and highly water resistant Nylon fabric is hard wearing and light enough to allow the Down 675 to fully loft. The hood is fully adjustable allowing you to gain a comfortable customised fit yet it is big enough to pop over a helmet, and can be removed when not in use. The hood and back of the jacket contain Mountain Equipments proprietory ELX system, which is mainly used on their sleeping bags. The ELX system is simply elasticated stitching that reduces the amount of dead space in the jacket allowing your body to do less work to stay warm. The Annapurna Jacket is a choice jacket for those who want total functionality in the most severe environments. M.E. only uses Down Codex Audited Animal Welfare approved sources for all their Down filled products marked with the Down Codex Stamp. The Bastion Jacket from M.E. is a lightweight hooded jacket that can be thrown on to provide you with warmth and a 100% windproof barrier. This is thanks to the Gore- Windstopper shell fabric that stops the wind from pushing out warm air trapped within the Polarloft Duo insulation. This brilliant jacket is probably one of the best lightweight insulated jackets around today; its warm, extremely breathable and very very weather resistant. Chuck the Bastion on over a good base layer and its pretty much all youll need for winter mountain activities and thanks to the highly breathable face fabric and insulation the Bastion works extremely well as a mid layer for extreme conditions. The Windstopper shell fabric, apart from being rather obviously windproof, is highly water resistant, so youll only need a waterproof shell when the weather gets extremely nasty. Stretch Windstopper panels under the arms and down the sides provide superb freedom of movement and ensure an efficient fit to maximise the insulation. The bastion is filled with a synthetic insulation called Polarloft Duo which is made up from a mix of hollow core and multi-channel fibre. These fibres work together regulating temperature as you move. It provides impressive moisture management which aids the removal of excess heat and moisture when you are active yet it does an amazing job of keeping you warm during rest periods. Unlike Down, Polarloft Duo will retain a high percentage of its warmth even when wet, and will dry out exceptionally quickly, making the Bastion Jacket absolutely perfect for UK winter conditions. The Bastion Jacket has a Mountain style Helmet Compatible (HC) Hood and has been cut to M.E. Alpine Fit block. This means the jacket has a closer fit than normal creating less dead space making it more thermally efficient, but don’t worry, you won’t feel restricted as it is fitted with a new shoulder block that allows for full range of movement relieving unwanted tension in the chest, shoulders and bicep areas. 2014 autumn/winter updates New 70g WINDSTOPPER insulated shell fabric WINDSTOPPER 290 Soft Shell thermal inserts stretch panels aid fit during dynamic activity 80g POLARLOFT Duo insulation Mountain HC Hood is fully adjustable Alpine fit with pre-shaped and articulated sleeves Shoulder Shield construction Carry over features 2-way YKK moulded centre front zip with insulated rear baffle 2 zipped micro fleece lined hand warmer pockets Inner zipped security pocket Stretch cuffs and dual tether hem drawcords For all you kit geeks out there, the links below will take you to Mountain Equipments Information pages where they will explain this jackets different fabrics, fills and constructions techniques in greater detail. Lowe Alpine have produced an absolute winner with the Frozen Sun Jacket, it uses the perfect blend of Polartec Alpha synthetic insulation and technical fabrics to produce a superb winter mountaineering jacket. The highly breathable nature of the filling makes this jacket more suitable for active users in demanding conditions, if you are looking for static warmth we would recommend a down or Primaloft filled jacket. Lowe have used two different weights of Alpha to maximise performance and minimise weight; the body uses 100g/m² and the arms use 80g/m². To keep you protected from the elements the Frozen Sun uses a Pertex Microlight Stretch fabric which, as the name suggests, has built in stretch for ease of movement, is very lightweight and has a Durable Water Repellant to resist all but the worst of the weather. Even the mesh lining has built in stretch so this jacket feels superb when you get it on. Should your jacket get soaked the synthetic Alpha insulation and the Pertex fabrics all dry out exceptionally quickly. Featuring a helmet compatible hood with a wired peak, harness compatible hand pockets, a chest pocket and a soft lined collar for enhanced comfort. We reckon this is the best example of any Alpha insulated jacket and really makes use of the insulations amazing properties. The Cerium LT Hoody is a specialist lightweight down jacket that can be used as an active user’s winter mid layer or as a standalone piece in cold dry conditions. It weights next to nothing, has clever mapped insulation and can be stuffed into its own stuff sack for easy storage. The Cerium is beautifully made, as you would expect from Arcteryx, but the really clever thing is the way that they have made the jacket so light. Traditional down jackets are made lighter by simply reducing the amount of down and using super lightweight, fragile materials. Arcteryx however have stuffed the Cerium with 850 fill power European Goose Down and given it a high tenacity face fabric. Weight reduction has been achieved through ingenious engineering techniques. For example the baffles on the elbows are narrower on the inside because your arm is naturally bent, so that area needs less fabric, the hem draw cords are reduced and only pull in the back of the jacket and the whole jacket is anatomically cut to reduce surplus fabrics. The Cerium also uses strategically placed Coreloft siliconised polyester synthetic insulation in areas that receive the most moisture and are affected by compression. The shoulders are Coreloft insulated as are the hem, sleeves and underarms. Coreloft retains warmth even when wet and resists compression better than down; so you get the best of both types of insulation, unrivaled warmth and comfort from the down in the main body and protection from Coreloft in strategic areas. The face fabric is called Airetica and is a 34g/² high tenacity 20 x 10 denier mini rip stop Nylon which has been treated with a DWR (durable water repellent), so it is tough, wind resistant, highly breathable and has a smooth feel and soft handle. The end result of all this technology, superior craftsmanship and Arcteryx gorgeousness is a down jacket that fits and feels fantastically well, performs in all mountain environments and looks brilliant. 850 fill power European Goose Down Coreloft 80 g/m² insulation Nylon rip stop face fabric Insulated storm hood Full front zip with chin guard and wind flap Elasticated cuffs Adjustable hem drawcord 2 zipped hand pockets Stuff sack included Trim fit

The Andes Jacket is a new addition to the Rab winter range and is an extremely warm and eminently capable high altitude mountaineering jacket; it is also perfectly suited for use at lower levels in extreme cold. To further enhance the Andes weather protection Rab have used the brilliant Pertex Endurance outer fabric. This tough durable fabric has a light PU internal coating to make it water resistant, downproof, windproof and breathable. The Andes is filled with 435g of 800 fill power Hydrophobic European Goose Down which has passed the European Down and Feather Codex. This code of conduct determines the source of the down; ensuring that the down is a by-product of a slaughterhouse or harvested during moulting periods and is not illegally live-plucked. All this means that the down inside the Andes is about as good as it gets! All this lovely down is captured within a narrow box wall construction to maximise loft and minimise cold spots. To further increase the practicality of this brilliant jacket Rab has used Hydrophobic down, basically each and every cluster of down is treated at source with Nikwax environmentally friendly, flurocarbon free special products to make them perform better in damp conditions. Although Hydrophobic down is not waterproof it dries much faster, absorbs less water and retains loft far better than untreated down. All zips used on the Andes are YKK Vislon, these are made from injected plastic making them much lighter than metal zips and far less susceptible to freezing. Featuring a down filled helmet compatible hood with wired peak and adjustment, 4 external and two mesh internal pockets for all your essentials and to stuff your cold hands into and a hem drawcord. The Fenrir is probably the most versatile down jacket you will ever own. DownTek Nanotechnology treatment creates surface tension on the down cluster, so when molecules of moisture encounter DownTek, the moisture is forced to collect into a sphere and roll off the down cluster rather than adhering to and soaking into it. This treatment adds no discernable weight and doesnt not effect the downs lofting capability. It is environmentally friendly and dramatically improves the wet performance of down. DownTek absorbs 30% less water, dries 60% faster and retains significantly more loft when exposed to moisture, and unlike other treatments out there, it doesnt wash out. All this magic 850 fill power premium goose down is cocooned in a lightweight 30 Denier windproof, rip-stop nylon outer with DWR finish, allowing the down to fully loft and resulting in a highly weather resistant, warm jacket. Using an athletic cut and hybrid construction; not only does the Fenrir fit superbly reducing the amount of dead space in the jacket. It also has Neutron breathable synthetic insulation in key moisture areas such as, the cuff hems and collar. It also feature and elasticated hood, YKK front zip with glove compatible zip pulls and one hand operated hem draw cords. This is a big improvement over the old Atom LT Jacket as its collar was a bit minimal and too short. The Atom LT Jacket is insulated with 60g/m² Coreloft, an incredibly efficient synthetic insulation that performs even when wet and will dry out exceptionally quickly. We have found through practical experience that this jacket is highly water resistant, negating the need for a shell until it really is pouring down. This premium quality and superbly designed expedition jacket is packed with 850 fill power premium goose and duck down that has been made highly water repellant by Down-Tek Nanotechnology. This cationic treatment creates surface tension on the down cluster. When molecules of moisture encounter Down-Tek, the moisture is forced to collect into a sphere and roll off the down cluster rather than adhering to and soaking into it. This treatment adds no discernable weight, is environmentally friendly and dramatically improves the wet performance of down. Down-Tek absorbs 30% less water, dries 60% faster and retains significantly more loft when exposed to moisture. All this magic down is cocooned in a 30 Denier windproof, rip-stop nylon main body outer with DWR finish resulting in a highly weather resistant jacket. Box wall construction is used on the main body to maximise loft and insulation, whilst the arms have a stitch through construction to minimise weight. Jottnar have applied their fastidious detailing to this jacket and used Neutron 120 synthetic filling on the cuffs, hem and collar, these are areas most likely to wet out. The fully insulated and adjustable helmet compatible hood has a stiffened and wired peak and a nice high collar with soft Rentex (synthetic micro-suede) beard guard to protect your face. A 2 way YKK front zip is used to allow harness access and it has a large synthetic filled internal baffle to reduce cold spots. Rentex is also used to line the inner cuffs which are elasticated with Velcro adjustment. There are two zipped hand pockets with protective front facing insulation and one zipped internal pocket capable of swallowing a 1 litre bottle. You even get a choice of zip puller cords, lightweight, or glove compatible. The Rab Strata Hoodie is the result of Rab’s collaborative work with fabric and insulation suppliers. Insulated with the amazingly breathable and warm Polartec Alpha, combined with a 20 denier Pertex Microlight, the Strata allows some airflow to maximise breathability and comfort. The Strata is primarily designed for active use in cold conditions, when you are moving quickly and maximum breathability is your main priority. To maximise the performance of Alpha insulation Rab have developed a zoned nylon and polyester mesh lining fabric that is hard wearing yet allows maximum airflow. The face fabric is Pertex Microlight, a durable, lightweight and very breathable 20 denier woven nylon. The combination of these brilliant fabrics and insulation results in a new breed of active warm wear that is set to revolutionise how synthetic insulation is used in the mountains. The Generator Alpine offers reliable warmth, durability and amazing water resistance in a lightweight and compressible package. This is the perfect jacket for use as a lightweight technical belay jacket or as a practical outer layer for backpacking, climbing and mountaineering. Combining the warmth from the Primaloft insulation and the amazing weather resistance makes the Generator Alpine the perfect insulated jacket for our typical wet and cold winter weather. Warmth is provided by 100g/m² Primaloft One in the body and 60g/m² in the sleeves and hood. The performance of Primaloft, unlike Down, is virtually unaffected by water; you can literally soak this jacket, wring it out and it will still keep you warm making it the perfect piece for our wet climate. Rab have used the superb Pertex Endurance for the face fabric which has an ultra-thin membrane which allows it to breathe and maintain high water resistance. Rab have added heavier, higher denier (70D) panels on the shoulders to add protection from rucksack straps. Whilst not guaranteed so, the combination of Primaloft One and Pertex Endurance make this jacket practically waterproof. To keep the weight down and to improve the Generator Alpines packability Rab have used superfine Pertex Quantum fabric for the lining; this ultra-lightweight fabric absorbs little moisture, wicks moisture and dries quickly. The main zip is a YKK AquaGuard VISLON zip that is highly water resistant and runs smoothly even in freezing condition and is backed up by an insulated baffle to prevent cold spots. The other external pockets all feature YKK AquaGuard zips but they are not completely waterproof, so if you have items that must be kept dry (mobile phone or GPS) protect them with a waterproof case or bag. Rab have used their superb hood design for the fully helmet compatible fixed hood. The hood may be able to accommodate a mountaineering helmet but it adjusts to fit your head comfortably and features a wired peak to stop it flapping around your face. I really like the Rab hood design, it works with all headgear without being too big and baggy. If you want one winter jacket to do just about everything from mountaineering to dog walking, then this is the one. Primaloft ONE insulation (100g/m² in body, 60g/m² in hood & sleeves) Helmet-compatible hood with wired peak and roll-down Velcro tab and drawcord adjustment 2-way YKK AquaGuard VISLON front zip with internal insulated zip baffle Reinforced shoulder patches 1 x YKK AquaGuard zipped chest pocket, doubles as integrated stuff sack 2 x YKK AquaGuard zipped A-line chest pockets 1 x YKK zipped internal security pocket 1 x internal open mesh pocket Velcro cuffs Hem drawcord Tricot lined collar Reflective trims Regular fit
The Fitzroy Jacket is packed with PrimaLoft Gold (100g fill in the body with 60g in the arms and hood). The PrimaLoft Gold is the rebranded PrimaLoft One. It rivals the weight and compressibility of down and keeps you warm when wet; what more do you want from your insulation layer? The Drilite Loft II outer fabric is a totally windproof and highly water resistant. Drilite is a Nylon fabric that is hard wearing yet light enough to allow the insulation to fully loft; therefore it can trap more arm air keeping you nice and toasty. The Fitzroy jacket features Shoulder Shield Construction which is a one piece shoulder and arm panel and a dual layer fill; this reduces the amount of seams, resulting in fewer water entry points and potential forming of cold spots on this key area of wear. Designed with a bit of extra space to allow you to throw this on over other layers (M.E.’s Mountain Fit) is what makes this jacket perfect for use in cold conditions. 2014 autumn/winter updates DRILITE Loft II outer; totally windproof and highly water resistant PrimaLoft GOLD insulation (100g body and 60g arms/hood) Mountain HC insulated hood with wired visor Mountain fit with articulated and pre-shaped sleeves Shoulder Shield construction DRILITE Loft II inner hem and hood lining Carry over features 2-way YKK moulded centre front zip with insulated rear baffle 2 zipped hand warmer pockets with microfleece lining Napoleon chest pocket Internal zipped security pocket Adjustable cuffs and dual tether hem drawcords For all you kit geeks out there, the links below will take you to Mountain Equipments Information pages where they will explain this jackets different fabrics, fills and constructions techniques in greater detail. The Vega Down Jacket is perfect for fast and light winter sports. It would make a great belay jacket for the depths of winter. Thanks to its tailored alpine cut and the 750 fill power goose down, you should feel an all over body hug that eliminates most of the unwanted dead space keeping you nice and toasty. The use of down ensures the best warmth to weight and compressibility ratio of any other forms of insulation. Its outer is made from Drylite Loft II. This totally windproof and highly water resistant Nylon fabric is hard wearing and light enough to allow the down to fully loft, creating lots of little air pockets that can be heated up and trapped to keep your body super toasty. The Half Dome HC Hood is constructed using ELX (elasticated stitching) producing a comfortable fit around your head (and helmet) increasing overall warmth and fit. The hood and hem has been fitted with a drawcords; thus giving you the ability to synch it in tight to keep the cold air from getting to you and pushing out the nice warm stuff.

The Arcteryx Kappa Hoody is a brilliant winter insulated hooded jacket. Whilst not guaranteed completely waterproof it will keep out all but the most extreme weather. Heavily insulated with a 140g synthetic Coreloft polyester fibre the Kappa is perfect for active pursuits in freezing conditions. The Kappa is constructed using N70p Windstopper fabric with critical areas reinforced with N80p-X fabric for increased abrasion resistance. Windstopper fabric is made using the same PTFE membrane as normal Gore-Tex products but without some of the protective layers and no taping on the seams, this makes it very highly water resistant but not absolutely completely waterproof. Arcteryx further enhance the wet weather performance of the Kappa by taping the critical seams over the shoulders and chest. Our practical experience has shown us that you would have to try very hard indeed, in some pretty horrendous conditions, to get wet in this jacket. The advantage of Windstopper over Gore-Tex is that it is much more breathable, so better suited to more aerobic activities. Insulation is taken care of by 140g of Coreloft, a siliconised, highly crimped polyester yarn that is highly breathable, compressible and has excellent loft retention. Unlike down Coreloft will retain much of its warmth even if it does get wet. The Kappa is a brilliant jacket made superbly and suitable for all outdoor activities or as a reliable and warm winter jacket. The brand new Atom AR replaces the old Atom SV as a more versatile and All Round jacket suitable for a variety of conditions and temperatures. This new hooded insulated jacket is set to become one of the best lightweight and versatile insulated jackets available today. Capable of shrugging off the worst of the weather it is wind and water repellent and highly breathable. Filled with a mix of three different weights of highly efficient synthetic Coreloft insulation to maximise insulation, breathability and pack size. The main body uses 120g/m², under the arms has 80g/m² and the hood is insulated with 60g/m² Coreloft. The use of synthetic Coreloft insulation and the tough 100% nylon Gossamera face fabric ensures the Atom AR performs well even in cold and wet conditions. The Gossamera face fabric is an incredibly tough 30D mechanical stretch nylon ripstop that is coated with an air permeable PU coating and a DWR face finish to make it highly water resistant. Due to the low water absorbency of the synthetic Coreloft insulation and the Gossamera fabric this jacket will dry out exceptionally quickly and even retain most of its insulation when wet. We have found through practical experience that this type of jacket is highly water resistant, negating the need for a shell until it really is pouring down. Featuring a fully helmet compatible hood that is equally useful when just wearing a beanie, two zipped hand warmer pockets, an internal zipped chest pocket and possibly the most comfortable wrist cuffs in the world! The Inferno Basecamp Jacket is Rabs latest super warm and water resistant offering for winter belays in the coldest, dampest conditions. Its also perfect for less technical activities that require maximum warmth and protection. The Inferno basecamp jacket, as the name suggests, cooks up an inferno of heat and is perfect for less strenuous activities in freezing and damp conditions; like hanging around at basecamp for instance. The jacket has been designed to cope with extreme cold and wet conditions and has a load of practical features to make it perfectly capable of dealing with the wear and tear of the outdoor work environment. Rab have used their own Pyrotec 100% recycled synthetic fibre to provide insulation in the harshest environments. Pyrotec has a multi-denier construction that resists compression yet packs down easily. The fibres themselves are hydrophobic, so they absorb very little water and dry out exceptionally quickly. The Inferno Basecamp uses different weights of fabric to maximise warmth, breathability and practicality; the main body uses 200g/m², the arms and hood use 160g/m² and the wrists use 60g/m². To protect the insulation from the elements a Pertex Endurance shell is used; this lightweight yet incredibly strong fabric has a light PU coating that is water resistant, windproof and breathable and has a hydrostatic head of 1000mm. This Endurance fabric also extends up the hem lining to prevent moisture from wicking up inside the jacket. A much lighter and more breathable Pertex Quantum is used to line the Inferno Basecamp helping to maintain breathability and compression. The main zip is a YKK AquaGuard VISLON zip that is highly water resistant and runs smoothly even in freezing condition and is backed up by an insulated baffle to prevent cold spots. The Napoleon chest pockets use the YKK Aquaguard Vislon zips and are lined with Pertex Endurance making them perfect for stashing soggy items such as gloves and hats. The two fleece lined handwarmer pockets also feature YKK AquaGuard zips; none of the pockets are completely waterproof, so if you have items that must be kept dry (mobile phone or GPS) protect them with a waterproof case or bag. Two internal mesh pockets complete the storage capabilities and are perfect for storing water bottles to stop them freezing. M.E. only uses Down Codex Audited Animal Welfare approved sources for all their Down filled products marked with the Down Codex Stamp. This is Rab’s lightest synthetic insulated pullon; offering warmth and weather protection for all winter mountain activities. This phenomenally lightweight pull-on is filled with Primaloft insulation and uses Pertex Quantum fabrics to ensure it will pack down teeny tiny and still offer warmth and weather protection when required. Primaloft One is a siliconised synthetic insulation fibre that resists compression, is lightweight and absorbs virtually no water making it extremely weather resistant and extremely quick drying. Combine this amazing filling with the lightest Pertex Quantum fabrics and you have an incredibly lightweight yet warm jacket. Because of its fantastic weather resistance the Xenon X Pullon can be pulled on over other layers to reduce chilling when you stop, or it can be used as part of an efficient layering system for more active pursuits in extreme conditions. When not required the Xenon X Pullon will stuff into its own chest pocket and become virtually unnoticeable in your pack. The Xenon X Pullon has a high insulated and soft lined collar and plenty of zipped pockets to keep your essentials safe. This is a super lightweight, warm pullon for use in cold wet conditions, making it absolutely perfect for UK winter mountain activities. 60 g/m² Primaloft One synthetic insulation High insulated and soft lined collar YKK front zip with internal insulated baffle and chin guard YKK zipped hand warmer pockets YKK zipped chest pocket which doubles as an integrated stuff sack Elasticated cuffs Hem drawcord Slim fit

The Rab Summit Jacket has been in Rab’s winter range for donkey’s years and recent updates have spruced up this classic down jacket. The Summit is probably the perfect all round nasty weather down jacket, ideal for winter mountaineering, base camp comfort or as a practical and durable everyday winter jacket. Pertex Endurance fabric is used to protect the lovely down insulation, this tough yet lightweight fabric has a light PU coating to give it a useful degree of water resistance, and although not completely waterproof it will shrug off the worst of the weather. Heavier denier contrasting Pertex Endurance is used over the shoulders and arms to provide reassuring abrasion resistance. Filled with 285g of 650 fill power Hydrophobic Goose Down in a stitch through construction the Summit Jacket will provide ample warmth for all but the most extreme temperatures. The down filled hood has a wired peak and can be rolled down and secured with poppers when not required. Rab is using Hydrophobic down in all their down jackets, basically each and every cluster of down is treated with Nikwax products to make them perform better in damp conditions. Although Hydrophobic down is not waterproof it dries much faster, absorbs less water and retains loft far better than untreated down. The use of a YKK Vislon AquaGuard main zip further enhances the Summit’s weather resistance and gives the jacket a smart technical appearance. The Summit is a brilliant all round, all purpose winter down jacket for all but the most extreme conditions. 285g 650 fill power Hydrophobic European goose down Stitch-through baffle construction Down-filled helmet-compatible hood with wired peak 2-way YKK AquaGuard VISLON front zip with internal insulated zip baffle and chin guard Separate collar with hood stow system 2 x YKK AquaGuard zipped hand warmer pockets 1 x YKK zipped internal security pocket 1 x large internal mesh pocket Velcro cuffs Hem drawcord Articulated elbows Stuff sack Relaxed fit
The Ascent is Rab’s general purpose and durable down jacket and is made using Pertex Endurance fabric. Whilst it is not completely waterproof, this tough durable fabric has a light PU internal coating to make it water resistant, downproof, windproof and breathable so it will see off the worst of the weather. The fabric is also very durable and will cope easily with everyday duties. A detachable down filled hood adds extra insulation when required. To further increase the practicality of this brilliant jacket Rab has used Hydrophobic down, basically each and every cluster of down is treated at source with Nikwax environmentally friendly, fluorocarbon free special products to make them perform better in damp conditions. Although Hydrophobic down is not waterproof it dries much faster, absorbs less water and retains loft far better than untreated down. This versatile jacket is stuffed with 330g of 650 fill power Hydrophobic Duck Down which has passed the European Down and Feather Codex. This code of conduct determines the source of the down; ensuring that the down is a by-product of a slaughterhouse or harvested during moulting periods and is not illegally live-plucked. This means that the down inside the Ascent is completely ethical and of high quality. The Ascent is very warm, yet still lightweight and excellent value for money. If your demands are not too technical or you just want maximum warmth for minimum pounds, then the Ascent Jacket is perfect. The Lumin Jacket is new to M.E. for winter 2014, and it is the warmest in their lightweight down jacket range. This is thanks to the ultra-compressible and lightweight He (Helium) 30 fabric, the high loft baffle construction and the WR Down 675 that fills it. The use of down ensures the best warmth to weight ratio and compressibility of any other forms of insulation. WR Down does not mean you can now wear your down jacket in the rain! It means that the down resists the absorption of moisture therefore increasing the downs performance when it comes to wicking moisture away from your body. Unless your down jacket states that is 100% waterproof, it is still only suitable for cold dry conditions. The Lumin has an adjustable Light Dome HC (Helmet Compatible) Hood. The Light Dome hood isn’t designed for all-day helmet use but will do the job when absolutely necessary. The Alfar has a pretty cool hybrid construction consisting of Polartec Powerstretch Pro in the sleeves, under arm and hood panels. Where as the main body and hood are made up from Neutron 120 synthetic insulation encased in a 30 denier, micro rip-stop nylon, windproof fabric with a DWR (Durable Water repellency) finish. Super techy with a close, fully articulated athletic fit, useful thumb loops and harness compatible hand pockets. The Polartec Powerstretch Pro panels allow for reduced bulk when layering and increased breathability in warmer areas such as the underarms. The Neutron synthetic insulation traps the warm air between its fibres and the windproof outer fabric prevents that warm air from escaping. So the different parts of this jacket work together to regulated your body temperature and maintain a great level of comfort. Use the Alfar as a lightweight active outer piece in fair conditions, or in colder climates you can use is as part of a modular layering system as a good weight mid-layer. These extreme condition salopettes are made with Pertex Endurance to provide a windproof, highly breathable and water resistant shell. Insulation is provided by 350g of 850 fill power superior quality European goose down in full box wall construction. Box wall baffles allow the down to reach its maximum loft and stop it from migrating thus ensuring optimum insulation. Full length side zips facilitate easy on and off, essential in extreme conditions and the high insulated bib keeps the vital chest and kidney area protected and movement is made easy with fully articulated knees. Ventilation can be improved, should you find yourself overheating, by opening the multiple pullers on the side zips.
The Thorium is best described as a general multi-purpose down jacket that can be used as a winter mid layer or just as a super warm and cosy everyday jacket. The boffins at Arcteryx have cleverly combined natural down with strategically placed synthetic insulation to reduce weight, reduce compression and improve performance. The Thorium is beautifully made, as you would expect from Arcteryx, but the really clever thing is the way that they have made the jacket so light. Traditional down jackets are made lighter by simply reducing the amount of down and using super lightweight, fragile materials. Arcteryx however have stuffed the Thorium with 750 fill power European Grey Goose Down and given it a robust face fabric; weight reduction has been achieved through ingenious engineering techniques. For example the baffles on the elbows are narrower on the inside because your arm is naturally bent, so that area needs less fabric, the hem draw cords are reduced and only pull in the back of the jacket and the whole jacket is anatomically cut to reduce surplus fabric. The Thorium also uses strategically placed Coreloft siliconised polyester synthetic insulation in areas that receive the most moisture and are affected by compression. The hood is Coreloft insulated as are the shoulders, hem, sleeves and underarms. Coreloft retains warmth even when wet and resists compression better than down. So you get the best of both types of insulation, unrivaled warmth and comfort from the down in the main body and the protection from Coreloft in strategic areas. The face fabric is a 40 denier mini rip stop taffeta Nylon, it has been treated with a DWR (durable water repellent) and is wind resistant and highly breathable. The end result of all this technology and Arcteryx gorgeousness is a down jacket that fits superbly, feels fantastic, performs in all mountain environments and looks brilliant. 750 fill power European Grey Goose Down Coreloft 140 gsm insulation Coreloft 80 gsm insulation Moisture-resistant outer face fabric Breathable Insulated Lightweight Compressible and packable Wind resistant DWR finish (Durable Water Repellent) helps bead water from fabric surface Down Composite Mapping strategically places Coreloft synthetic insulation in areas where moisture may build up. This deservedly extremely popular Vest is stuffed with 90g of 750 fill power Hydrophobic European Goose Down all wrapped up in a durable and breathable Pertex Microlight shell. Rab is using Hydrophobic down in all their down clothing, basically each and every cluster of down is treated with Nikwax products to make them perform better in damp conditions. Although Hydrophobic down is not waterproof it dries much faster, absorbs less water and retains loft far better than untreated down. This is such a versatile bit of kit, providing fantastic levels of warmth and comfort to core body areas and packs down into its own chest pocket to take up virtually no room in your pack when not required. The Cerium LT Hoody is a specialist lightweight down jacket that can be used as an active user’s winter mid layer or as a standalone piece in cold dry conditions. It weights next to nothing, has clever mapped insulation and can be stuffed into its own stuff sack for easy storage. Traditional down jackets are made lighter by simply reducing the amount of down and using super lightweight, fragile materials. The Fission SV has been the toughest, warmest and most waterproof jacket from Arcteryx for years and this season sees it re-designed to make it more comfortable, stronger and just better. The Fission SV features a new Gore-Tex Pro outer shell with reinforced 3 layer fabric across the main abrasion areas with a lighter more breathable 2 layer Gore-Tex Pro fabric. Both these fabrics have a softer feel and move quietly to eliminate that annoying Gore-Tex rustle. Insulation is provided by their own Coreloft synthetic fibres which is zoned to optimise performance. Coreloft 100 g/m² is used under the arms to increase movement and increase breathability, whilst Coreloft 140 g/m² is used in the rest of the construction to maximise warmth. The benefits of Coreloft insulation is that it resists compression better than down, it is durable and resilient, and should the jacket become soaked, it will retain warmth and dry quickly. A fully insulated and helmet compatible Drop Hood provides essential protection and is attached to an insulated high collar. When not required the hood drops out of the way leaving the high collar to provide warmth and seal out the wind. There are also plenty of storage options with two chest pockets, two hand pockets and two internal mesh pockets. All external pockets use WaterTight zips and the main zip has a WaterTight Vislon zip all of which are highly water resistant but not completely waterproof. Arcteryx have applied their genius E-3D patterning which uses clever design and construction techniques to improve the fit, enhance mobility and reduce overall weight. The end result is that the Fission SV feels fantastic on giving you a real sense of comfort and protection. The Fission SV is the perfect all mountain jacket in hostile conditions or less strenuous activities when you just need the best protection available.
